Move aside Bugatti Veyron. (Now there's a strange concept.) Classic Driver says the derivatively-named SSC Ultimate Aero TT (a land speed record holder, an Ultima nod, an English candy bar and a gay icon) could unseat the VW's quad-turbo monster as the world's fastest production automobile. Equipped with a 1,183hp twin-turbo 'Vette motor, the $550k SUATT should be good for 273mph. As befits the pride of Washington state, SSC's March run at the record was postponed by snow. There's no word on a second attempt, but I reckon anyone nuts enough to build a car with 1094 ft.-lbs. of torque– without traction control– isn't afraid to use it. They should be, but they probably aren't.

does anyone really care about supercars anymore? i did when i was 12, but i don’t know if that’s because i was 12 or because the late 80s and early 90s were a good time for supercars.
or maybe y’all do care and painful reality just set in for me with $40K cars being the upper reaches of “super” for me

I’d say it’s more likely that the supercars of 20 years ago had the perormance of the $40-$50k cars of today.
1000hp, $500k cars don’t hold much interest for me either.
I’m obsessed with the supercars of my youth but I couldn’t give a crap about the “super” cars out today
No problem Robert :D
The super cars of today are getting ridiculous. One of the problems with the TVR speed 12 was it was just too nuts to be driven on the road. 300 mph is the new 250 mph I guess. A Mclaren F1 would be just fine with me.
I lost interest in super cars after Porsche brought out the 911 Turbo in the late 70’s. As far as I can discern it is has just been more of the same. I agree with NickNick, it has something to do with the brain of a 12 year old.
To my jaundiced eye, “Supercar” now involves flight (much like the Gerry/Sylvia Anderson puppet series of the 1960’s).
Man what’s with the interior? Looks like a cobalt would put that interior to shame. They couldn’t even spring for leather? sheesh!
