ford-tray-table.jpgIf you dig corporate logos shadow-embossed on your TV shows, you'll love the Taurus Trays. SkyMedia, Ford's latest media partner, has created a folding tray table that not only holds your complimentary bag of peanuts; it pimps the "new" Ford Taurus to you and the two strangers you're stuck with for the next three hours. FoMoCo PR reports that The Taurus Trays even offer an "interactive game" when the Skymall catalog gets tiresome. Whether or not you think this brand of promo-tainment offers "entertaining content on seat-back tray tables" you'll have a chance to experience the Taurus Trays until September. Just don't forget to say "buh-bye" when you disembark.

    D – E – S – P – E – R – A – T – I – O – N

And Ford spelled sideways – is DORF.

    “All new” Taurus? Right!

Wow. I’m surprised that the airlines didn’t think of selling this space sooner. I’m sure they will start thinking like the bus and subway companies and start selling the space on the overhead bins for print advertising. After all, airlines like Southwest are really nothing but buses with wings.

    Next… pay lavatories!

“Accident-prone? Then this car is for YOU!” Now that’s messed up… I’m shocked that they would actually try to appeal to the idea that it’s OK to have an accident, too bad about the other guy… I hate captive audience ads. I will deface these trays if I see them.

I’m reminded of a long flight I took on Frontier airlines, who have seat-back video screens on every seatback. Each person who didn’t pay the $5 to watch satellite TV was subjected to a bright, endlessly looping ad for the Subaru Legacy. I was one of the few that figured out that the screens could be turned off. Sometimes a captive audience is so captive that it can feel trapped. Ford should be careful with this kind of coach-class advertising strategy.

How do you stand with your back against the wall in an airplane?

Does business class get Milan trays?

Business Class gets the Sable…1st Class gets the Milan.

Ford is just specializing in their core competency – mass annoying advertising.

Unfortunately, I see this as a new revenue venue or the airlines now and others will come.

If they had Milan trays, I could only hope Jill Wagner is on them.

Jill Wagner tray tables would put Skymall out of business.

Ditto the retro Farrah Fawcett trays promoting the 1978 Cougar XR-7.:)
