vette.jpgThe cover of Motor Trend's (MT) November issue (written in February) featured some rendered speculation on the shape and style of the next generation Corvette [top secret]. When our resident photochopper asked what we'd like for this week's exclusive image, I set him to work on an alternative version. Mr. Avarvarii clearly agrees with MT that the new 'Vette will be like the current car, only more so. His report: "Well, I have to admit this one was tricky. Designing (or pretending to do so on) an American automotive icon at it's seventh incarnation. It's no walk in park. No wonder those guys only do it once a decade. I went for a retro-angular-chopped approach. that seems to be the tendency for the next decade. I know the result is not exactly a work of art, but if we consider the limited development time (and the fact that I'm European) it's not that bad." Not that bad at all.

As a long-time Corvette fan, I like Mr. Avarvarii’s rendition. I hope they keep this car front-engined.

A bit too cartoonish in that C3-from-Hell kind of way. Not entirely applealing from my point of view.

What is with the overbite, looks like it needs one of those headgear units for braces. Looks like the current one besides that and the ugly stupid big wheels.

Massage the proportions and put normal sized nonbling wheels and it would look really handsome.

Is it just me or does the front end of every new Chevrolet look like a salamader?

I’ll stick with the C6, thanks.

For God’s sake, if there is one GM vehicle that can ripen on the vine for a few years, it’s the Vette.

I know they are outdated and expensive, but the Vette needs covered headlights. Especially in Mr. Avarvarii’s well done rendering.

Not bad except for the MR2 Spyder headlights.

I actually recoiled at that. The front end looks about 30% larger than the rest of the car, the headlights are crosseyed and cutesy, and the rear has the same beltline crease from the Dodge Charger that was dated about 6 months before it ever made production.

The car looks cheap and disproportioned, in large part because of the Charger similarities. If you’re going to copy, copy from something upmarket that’ll actually *add* brand prestige.

That’s the side profile of the current C6. (Select the URL at the top of the new page and press Enter)

That’s what it ought to look like. I’m no fan of the 599’s front styling, but there’s nothing preventing the Corvette team from borrowing the side proportions, which are about as perfect as a car can be.
