German Car magazine Autobild reveals that Audi has given the A5 "Sportback" the green light. The German Car Blog provides the airline magazine English translation: "It's basically an Audi A5, but with 4 doors and a modified rear look. They also claim to know that Audi is going to introduce the Sportback type into the whole model line-up, even besides the already existing Avant for many models." Huh? So Audi buyers will have a choice of ordering their A4, A5, A6 or forthcoming A7 in either passenger-friendly form or as a four-door coupe? Not to mention (oh why not?) the Avant Sportback versions. So… two body styles AND two design languages per Audi model. Yeah, that makes sense. Come to think of it, why not an Q5 or Q7 Sportback? Or if Ingolstadt wanted to build something really ugly, they could just bring back the A2.

Sportback? How about Audi A5 Magnum.
Yup looks and smells like an Audi Magnum. Could they have been any more blatent on copying an existing design? I wonder if Dodge will mind. Hopefully Chevrolet won’t be upset about stealing their Corvette wheel design either.
So exactly what is the differnce between an A5 sportsback and a A4 or A6 Avant?
I really don't understand what the difference between an A5 Sportback and an A4 Avant is supposed to be, or why both should exist.
WTF
Hot-Hot-Hot vehicle.
But yeah, will it actually slot between the A4 avant and A6 avant (both hot vehicles in their own rights)?
So it’s a 4-door coupe wagon? Will BMW counter with a 2-door sedan SUV? Stay tuned!

That was my question. Looks like a wagon (“avant” in Audispeak) to me.
Some day Audi is going to have a lineup of nothing but wagons, roughly 61 of them at this rate. Which is sweet – I love wagons.
Of course, when they finally do go to a 100% wagon lineup I bet they still won’t sell any of the good ones in the US.
Way to go, Audi.
Why are you pickig on the A2?. I thought it was cute and clever. It got something like 60 mpg. Not a bad idea for these times.

BMW has the X6, so we won’t have to wait long Q-Sportsbacks.

Which was the last good-looking Audi in my eyes. Bauhaus to the max. Peter Schreyer still considers the A2 his best work ever.

Wrong. The A2 1.2 TDI got 80 MPG. Seated four in comfort and was happy to cruise all day at 190 kph.
With a DSG in place of the old jerky manumatic, this could be a winner today.
