Although TTAC hasn't posted on the new Knight Rider TV series– why would we?– I still felt obliged to watch the premier on your behalf; just in case the show did something so stupid it deserved mention here. Other than the fact that a Ford Mustang GT500KR couldn't outrun a Ford Edge, and KITT lived in a world populated entirely by Ford products, and the "shape shifting" KITT always transformed into a lower-priced, different colored Mustang (now there's a disguise), and a Ford commercial featuring both the lead actor and the lead car confused me as to which was the commercial and which was, uh, the longer commercial and… where was I? Oh yes, I missed gay KITT. KITT's new voice sounded like a "nice" HAL 9000 (i.e. monotone without the menace). Can I have a plausible plot line KITT? I'm sorry —- , I'm afraid I can't do that. (What WAS that character's name?) If the producers of this snoozefest had taken their cue from the original show (or, better yet, Woody Allen's Sleeper) and camped-up KITT, they would have had a major HITT on their hands. There were hints; the chief baddie's makeup-accented cheekbones and over-plucked eyebrows identified him as a closeted cross-dresser (which isn't necessarily a gay predilection, but you know what I mean). I will say this: the babe had nice eyes.

I was rather impressed with the Edge’s ability to keep up with KITT in that mountain scene. It was even able to achieve the shortest braking distance I have ever seen so as to avoid a head on with the semi.
The wheel did have a logo… Momo was what I caught…
The shameless plugging of Ford products was one thing, but the seemingly modified 500-600HP Edge? Um, I’d buy one of those if it could keep up with a Shelby Mustang. And did you catch the physics bending climax where the 4500+ lb Tahoe slams into the Mustang’s side and the ‘stang doesn’t even scoot sideways?
Character=Dave
That’s what surprises me, the British unions once endorsed the TATA deal because the Indians were inclined to keep the brand a British entity.
Oh, and KITT wasn’t a good pitchman for Foci.

I can’t believe you guys burned an hour of your lives to watch that nonsense.
I didn’t watch the show, but a one-hour Ford commercial doesn’t surprise me. That’s my second childhood show that’s been turned into an automotive ad. The first, of course, being that silly Transformers/GM movie. I’m still kicking myself for paying money to see that crap. What’s next, a new A-Team series where they drive nothing but a Dodge minivan? Oh damn, I hope I didn’t give ’em any ideas…
I wasn’t expecting the political statements:
1) The apparently lesbian FBI agent (why was that even necessary???)
2) The bad guys are in an organization called “Black River”…please, it’s a show about a talking car that can do 300+ mph EXCEPT when trying to outrun an Edge. It’s not ‘The McLaughlin Group’.
Not familiar with Will Arnett? Haven’t you ever watched Arrested Development – the single greatest TV comedy of the last decade (don’t try to give me Curb Your Enthusiasm) – in which he played “Gob” Bluth II? Sadly, I guess nobody watched that show…
The film stuck to the original and successful cult formula quite well. It had bad lines and acting, lots of tire-smoking car porn and ridiculous stunts. Even the Hoff reprised the role that made him famous, even if only for a few minutes. It also managed to be somewhat entertaining, moreso than I thought it would be. Too bad GM wasn’t willing to donate a black Corvette ZO6 for the lead role. Or maybe they were smarter than that.
I love Arrested Development and that’s why I know that Will Arnett had to drop out of this show/movie because he did a GM commercial back in the day. Kitt’s voice is actually Val Kilmer.
Transformers is such an awesome movie, it would still kick butt even if all the Autobots turned into Aveos. Besides, all the bad guys were non-GM, just like in real life! Ba-da-bom-ching!
It’s like a bad accident on the highway, you can’t help but look. I watched. I admit it.
Gawd, it was awful. Even The Hoff was worse.
Quasimondo, it’s worse than you thought, it was TWO hours out of our lives.
I didn’t know my Edge could keep up with my neighbor’s Shelby! I am going to ask him to race for pinks this weekend!!!
At the last minute, Will Arnett backed out of the voice-over for KITT (gee, he does voice over for the GMC commercials…go figure). So Val Kilmer is actually voicing the car. And yeah, the first 15 minutes were not necessary (two women with the lead character and the lesbian agent? Puh-leeze)…the rest was an orgasmic ad for all things Ford. At least the old KITT could outrun vans. As campy as the original was, this new version was abysmal. How many more product placements could we have? And KITT transformed into a six cylinder Mustang?? How tragic…
With this show so goes a piece of my childhood into a piece of garbage.
With the old Kitt, at least the interior designers were allowed to go hog wild with a plethora of Cyberdyne-digital gauges. The new Kitt’s dash is so spartan than that the four massive stock HVAC dials remain. What a waste of cockpit space for what could be better used for “Surveillance Mode” or “Jamming Radar”
Sajeev once wrote in an article about a vehicle that looked like KITT while going into maximum breaking mode. Now when Kitt goes into max speed mode he looks like a shopping cart, with the double-decker spoiler and all…
PS- where is turbo boost button? Sajeev, they are taking away all of our good memories from the 5th grade…
The best thing about the original Knight Rider was that KITT sounded like John Adams.
KITT: “I am obnoxious and disliked.”
TTAC: “Yes I know.”
Although TTAC hasn’t once posted on the new Knight Rider TV series– why would we?
Your not as fun as Jalop?
After reading what was written hear (I missed the show myself. Car show+hooters+a bit of random driving)), I’m sorry I missed it. A GT500KR, Lesbians, and the Hoff…damn.
FWIW The original KITT was voiced by William Daniels, of “St. Elsewhere” and later, “Boy Meets World” fame.
I watched it with the firm belief that it was going to suck. But then while watching i got into it. It was much much better than the Knight Rider 2010 back in the 90’s.
My problems with it are a collection of all the ones you guys just talked about: Fords everywhere… except for the vehicle that was gonna get destroyed which was a GM Suv (funny how that 2 people died inside that GM suv and the contrast with the Edge braking just in time in front of the big ol semi at the beginning).
The threesome in the beginning did not add anything to the story. Same with the lesbianism that served no purpose, and had no place in a family tv series. An Idea… lets get Jack from Will and Grace to Drive the new Goliath! It’ll be sazzy!!
Also very funny how in the middle of the movie, while traveling to vegas, KITT travels 600 miles in 3 hours in its “super mode” and when they arrive to the casino, the bad guys are already there. that was hillarious!
Also kind of funny the way they kept bringing up the existence of a second KITT to build excitement of a possible KARR revival.
On the positive side, I liked how they use Vegas as part of the setting for the new pilot. The original pilot in 82 also took place in Vegas
One of the things that would have made it for me would have been that somebody would have used the semi dissasembled Trans Am at the old man’s house(ex kitt) to go from a place to another (maybe instead of the Mike’s mom’s ELCamino looking car)
Besides that, the pilot was ok. Ford needs to step down a little. Its looking kind of like American Idol with all its ford’s plugs.
At a distance…. and with a little imagination the Mustang looked like the old Trans Am.
Virtual Insanity !!!!
You are in Luck
go to http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/video/episodes.shtml
you can catch the movie there!
I missed the show as well and when the previous poster linked that I could watch the episode online, I became genuinely excited… wow, I am a sad pathetic person.
You guys need to look into torrents. Full show, great quality, no commercials…”Lost” is the only show I watch on TV and that’s how I do it.
wildcmc
and had no place in a family tv series
dear god, you invited tots to watch this nonsense? And you watched it expecting it to suck, and you invited young kids to watch it with you ANYWAY?
i cant tell you how happy i am that i threw my tv away a few years ago.
Watch the middle Matrix version – all the cars / suvs / vans were GM products…only the semi and the Ducatis were not GMs.
Ford must have payed up the wazoo to get their Mustang and whore their other cars/suvs in this series (with the advent of Tivo and DVRs I hardly ever watch commercials anymore – almost never watch live tv unless it’s a sporting event). I’m amazed GM let them do it as this would be the best commercial GM could ever do for the upcoming Camaro. GM just does so many dumb things nowadays.
jerseydevil… lol
Nooooo. I dont have kids. But when I watched the original series I was a kid, so… I was just putting myself in that place. On the other hand, I also looked at my older brother’s xxx magazines at that same age too, so to tell you the truth… i have no idea what i meant by “and had no place in a family tv series”. forget i said anything.
Funny is also said “on the other hand” upthere.
I had seen enough Ford Commercial up to the head-on. You mean they didn’t crash? What fiction. Extreme, out of this galaxy fiction. Like was said, that’s a really short stopping distance, and everyone knows Ford can’t do that. Even in their hour-long commercial.
In Arrested Development, Will Arnetts characters name is Job even thought its said Gob.
the stairtruck. And the rock in the back seat of the mercedes.. funny days.
where was I…. Knight Rider. rubbish then. rubbish now.
What the hell ever happened to the Koenigsegg supposing to be in a Knight Rider movie?! Jesus f***ing christ…
Speaking of “Tots” and what not to say, durning a “prime time” show….was when Kitt asked that guy if he was a Homosexual…My jaw just about dropped..good luck explaining that to a 10 yr old..C’mon..was that really needed..Writers and producers please! let’s not drag our kids into this crap…where is our commen sense and morals!
Didn’t watch the first series, and I didn’t really watch this one, except wife had it on (she fondly remembers the old show). The one part I did wake up for was when the debadged (with JC Whitney’s finest grille) Tahoe/Yukon slams into KITT.
So I gathered it’s one large Ford commercial. Are bad guys cars always going to be debadged GMs? They didn’t want a Ford Expedition slamming into KITT and crumpling, lest Ford look bad?
Wow – the branding decisions that must go into every show. Good thing it won’t last long…
carguy1964
Writers and producers please! let’s not drag our kids into this crap…where is our commen sense and morals!
wow – is that what you expect from TV? I don’t. Perhaps you would be less upset if you looked elsewhere for “common sense and morals”.
Drop the TV. for gods sake.
PS – you obviously haven’t been around many 10 year olds lately…
Worst drivel there is, I watched the first tenminutes just to see what the car looked like, then went on-line and entered the contest to win a Shelby 500 KR (King of the Road not Knight Rider, gawd). If I’m lucky, I guess I’ll win a Ford Edge. It can corner like a Shelby, gets better gas mileage, and can transport four or more in comfort.
