20060714-5_g8o8123-515h.jpgAs if it really makes any difference to anyone at this point, The Detroit News reports that the White House has expressed confidence in GM's long-term prospects. In response to GM's sobering $38.7b loss in 2007, spokeswoman and mistress of the obvious Dana Perino said "The report from GM reflects what we've known for a long time, which is that the automotive industry in the United States is having some difficulties, and they are trying to work through those. They're trying to restructure. They have a changing marketplace; buyers have different tastes, and there are issues regarding how high their cost of business is." In other word, oops they did it again! But GM needn't worry because "the president believes strongly, the long-term health of the U.S. automotive industry is strong." It'd be interesting to see what the lame duck Commander-in-Chief's handlers would have to say about the situation if he was running for reelection this year, instead of coasting until the moving vans arrive in January.

Hasn’t Bush also heavily supported the corn-based E85-as-our-savior stance for some time?

His CAFE hikes also have more loopholes than a round of Swiss.

The President of the United States believes in GM? Just like he believed the head of FEMA was doing a great job? Or how he believed that it was “mission accomplished” in Iraq? Or how the french didn’t have a word for “Entrepeneur”?

Pardon me, if I don’t “believe” that GM’s share price will rise on this vote of confidence from a man who shouldn’t have been in power from the start…..

Is George W. Bush negotiating Putin to sell shares of ZAZ Motors in order to acquire new platforms from ZAZ that could be used for upcoming presidential DTS Caddy derivatives? You watch out holden, you `ve got mail..oops I mean a new platform coming that needs to be seriously beefed up. by the way it comes from the former axles….eeegh..axis of evil.evildoers. Good for the Prez. I’m sure this annoys the anti GM and anti US crowd…

    Skooter,

Not at all; all us anti-GM’ers, we’re all anti-Prez, too.

Whooops – I almost overlooked part of your post… Sorry, we’re PRO-US. If we weren’t, we’d leave. Hope that doesn’t ruin your day.

Since we’re speaking in gross generalities:
    if you’re anti-GM then you’re anti-US.

Bush, as the prez, is obligated to be pro-US (questionable record not considered). Logically, if he is pro-US he is pro-GM, for as GM goes so does US.

Thus, what walks on all fours in the morning, 2 legs during the day, and 3 in the evening?

If this man told me that our money was ok, I would IMMEDIATELY divest into Euros….or Pounds….or Swiss Francs. Has there ever been a more visibly high-profile example of the “Peter Principle”? Other than Nero. But, there are many parallels between these two, as they both fiddle while the flames shoot higher, while insisting that things are getting better every day. What a country. I am glad my Grandfather, who was shot down by someone in the Red Baron’s group in 1917, or my two uncles who were cannon fodder for that egomaniac Patton in Sicily, or my Aunt, while working as a nurse in Busan in Korea (killed by artillery fire), are no longer here to see into what condition our beloved USA has degenerated. My apologies for the digression, but I am very sorrowful that the Fourth Amendment is about to be gutted by “Give the Phone Companies A Pass Act” by giving them immunity from prosecution for their co-operation- without warrant- with the NSA to spy on ALL of us.The absence of outrage alternately terrifies and saddens me. End of tirade…..with my apologies for this being completely inapropriate on this site.

    Q. What is the difference between General Motors and the Titanic?

    A. The Titanic had an orchestra.

    MAN
crawles on all fours as a baby, walk on 2 legs as an adult, and walks on 3 with a cane when elderly.

    Q. What is the difference between General Motors and the Titanic?

The captain of the Titanic went down with the ship. Wagoner and his minions will parachute away fine at the end while everyone else gets sucked under with the ship.

    Word, to use the vernacular.

In light of the fact that Bush has been wrong on virtually every foreign, domestic, and fiscal policy decision he has made, GM should ask him to kindly shut the hell up.

RF, methinks that Bush declaring his support for GM completes that Company’s Death Watch series.

    Not so fast,

Only last year Bush was quoted as saying “American automakers need to build relevant products.”

He just says what his advisors tell him to.

We need Teddy Roosevelt reincarnated to get America back on top.

Yes. We are in “the swirl” as Mr, Grant terms it. So sad…

The photo and caption are my best laugh this month so far. Thanks!

As for Bush, here, as you all remember, is what he said about Vlad Putin (whose name means whore in French) after meeting him from a news story June 16, 2001:

“I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.

“I was able to get a sense of his soul.

    OldDavid,

Your family has certainly given more than its share of itself for our country. Thank you.
