KFOR news in Oklahoma had a crawl at the bottom of the screen saying, "Fight at gas stations caused by limited quantities of cheap gas." Apparently, a gas station in a not-that-great neighborhood in the city of the Okies was selling regular gas at $3.61 a gallon (with a ten-gallon maximum). Gas-crazed motorists were fighting each other in the rush for cheap go-juice. I felt it my duty as an automotive journalist to investigate this outbreak of violence first hand. I ran to my Volvo in full BDU camouflage and combat boots, gunned the anemic five-cylinder engine, and streaked (safely) down the interstate to the scene of the "crime." I was sorely dissappointed to discover that instead of Mad Max-style mayhem over the last of the cheap gas, several homeless people had been arrested for a meth drug deal gone bad, maybe to get enough money to fill their aging (and impounded) Mercury Montego. So much for my Pulitzer Prize on Peak Oil pugilism. At least I could drive away from the faux news in Swedish comfort, with my Swedish Fish snacks (made in Canada).

I’m more interested in the story behind Timberlake flipping the bird. Is his ire directed at the papparazzi or gas prices?

It’s at the greenies that believe he should be driving a Prius instead of a BMW…
isn’t faux news spelled Fox?
If I lived in Oklahoma I’d be pretty pissed off too.
let’s see…10 gallon maximum, 40 cent per gallon savings…help me with the math…you saved $4.
if there are defectives out there willing to drive out of their way to get into a fight for the *chance* to save $4, i’d love to see ’em. that’s the kind of news coverage i want and need.
@jaje,
Hey now… Oklahoma is OK!
There’s a 7/11 station that repeatedly is last to up their prices when everyone else does. The result? Long lines all day and night down the street to get into the packed station.
How are they not making money with increased business like that? The station across the street isn’t busy.
Hey, Mike, you gotta stop taking KFOR News seriously. They picked up a lot of bad habits when the NY Times owned the station.
Anyway, why fight over ten gallons of $3.61 regular? Right now the local gas price website shows the price as low as $3.57, and a bunch of places are posting $3.63 or close to it. What are you paying, jaje? You sound kinda envious.
Kfor doesn’t report any news. Just trash. Meth, murder, and mayhem. Tune in to that station and that’s all they talk about. I don’t even watch TV anymore. One of the better things I’ve ever done.
$3.85 a gallon though I live close to OK but not in it. It’s just that OK is in the way to get down to TX from KS.
@Mike:
In Canada we take our surstromming seriously. I think its made here because there is plenty of wide open space to ventilate. I think the 240 runs on the stuff too, but emissions would be foul.
@ Mike:
Awesome license plate slogan. Off topic, but good license plate designs, slogans, and colors are about extinct now.

Re the price of gas, I just gained >10% in my gas mileage and a lot of pep with a new ignition switch in my ’99 Accord. The gas mileage started flagging a couple of years ago, but I didn’t get overt symptoms until about 5 months ago.
Mike Solowiow,
Don’t believe anything from an Ogle.
Is that Justin Timberlake in the photo?
Ignition switch huh…?
Yes Some times it might happen. But I do not think these are usual. Because now the gas agencies are like a mafia they will manage this.
