Consumers living in The Land of Hope and Glory can now buy a right hand-drive (RHD) Cadillac CTS. But will they? In their review of the right-hooker CTS, the generally gentle AutoExpress notes that GM’s European operation hopes to shift 300 examples of the Cadillac CTS per year in the UK. Uh, does that cover the cost of the RHD engineering and tooling? The UK Caddy comes with a choice of a 208 horsepower, 2.8-liter V6, the 3.6 liter direct injection we Yanks enjoy (306 horsepower) and, eventually, a 250 horsepower diesel. The loaded 3.6 liter model goes for £33,000, which is the same as a BMW 335i. While the CTS ostensibly “competes” with the 5-Series in Europe, that’s an uphill battle– even against a BMW 525i (£35,000) or Mercedes E280 (£34,700).

The CTS has been sold in the UK since it launched the second generation last year.
I would like to know how successful it has been.
They can also sell the RHD version in Japan, Australia and all the other countries that drive in the wrong side of the road =)

Wow, $66,000 for an American made (i.e. dollar pegged) CTS? Way to not take advantage of the weak dollar GM, or maybe that is the break even point on the RHD expenses.
Also, the turbo ecotec would work very well in this car in this market.
the real problem any cadillac buyer on this side of the pond faces is chronic depreciation – it’s no good if it “better value” than a merc or BMW if you can’t get a decent money when you sell it on.
and if you think that $66,000 is expensive you should see how much cars cost in ireland
for example E350 76,500 euro ($114,000) and that’s before you fill it with $8 a gallon petrol.

As far as I remember I have never seen a CTS.
Cadillac has had at least three relaunches in the UK in the last ten years and the grand total of Caddys I have laid eyes on is two. A silver STS years ago and a BLS wagon also silver which caused much finger pointing and pant wetting due to its rarity.
Personally I love the CTS at least based on how it looks in magazines but somehow i just can’t see it becoming popular. Caddys when they are spotted tend to get the reaction of……….. its a normal car with some weird detailing.
