Berkowitz does not look like thisIn this edition of "what I learned during Robert's week off", warning and banning commenters. This is neither as much fun as you'd think nor is it something I'm particularly fond of. In the name of keeping it as a clean fight (and clean site), we've got to edit, delete, warn, and sometimes altogether toss people. At times, it's easy to identify what kind of comments have to go. But it's even still not easy to write the person and tell them they're way out of line. Other times, it's not an easy call. What constitutes flaming, especially flaming the site or other commenters broadly? What we try to do is encourage a lively debate and intervene as little as possible. But the shades of gray are always challenging. So we live and learn, and I thank all the B&B for constantly participating in the discussion on posts and for challenging us to make sure our structured free-speech is as robust as possible. Meanwhile, Jonny the Loverman and I talk about high performance cars and also about the Challenger SRT8.

I think you are doing allright. An I’m not saying that just because I was beaten with the editing stick. You live and learn every day…

The photo may not be of Justin, but that’s exactly what I imagine Jonny to look like.

I’ll defend the Challenger a little.

Since I haven’t driven one yet, I can’t speak to the “kickdown” you experienced in the SRT, but I don’t think its fair to characterize the Challenger as “slow”.

First, I don’t understand the use of 0-60 times instead of 1/4 mile times. The RWD nature of the car (along with the muscle car category) make the drag time a bit more applicable.

Second, the SRT’s 1/4 mile time has been recorded to be about 13.2, the manual R/T is about 14.0, and the SE is about 16.0. That sounds pretty fast to me (for the V8s). For comparison’s sake, it puts the R/T on pace with the ’09 WRX or Bullitt, and the SRT8 with the ’08 STi or the 335i.

Third, the Odyssey is not 7.7 0-60, it’s in the high 8’s and it runs about a 16.9 1/4 mile. The 4.0 Dodge Caravan is actually the fastest minivan one can buy, but it is still slower than the Challenger SE. The SE will get trounced by most V6 cars out there, but minivans won’t be an issue.

Salmon is fish, if I’m not incorrect. If I’m correct, mark it on the calendar.

It is always a delicate balancing act regarding censorship, but it is a necessary job all the same.

I was a member of a car cult (er, club) which wouldn’t allow negative mention of the vehicle or the manufacture, even if the . . . All things had to be concise and glorify the car, or you got the boot. No arguments were allowed between members, since the big kahuna monitored P.M.’s with a vigor.

It’s a tight rope, but things here seem to go smoothly.

Jonny….not to sound like a broken record, but sure, the Viper ran 4 sec faster around the Ring….but the ZR1 was on Michelin Pilots, and the ACR was on R compunds. Put equal tires on both…and the difference evaporates.

And please remember….the ZR1 is SO far superior of an all around car….it’s not even funny. It can be driven daily in total comfort, outrun the ACR in a straight line, and with equal tires, it’ll be right with it in the twisties without the bone jarring ride.

As for the CTS-V vs ZR1….the limiting factor is not the rods, but rather the smaller blower and hypereutectic pistons (vs forged in the ZR1). Hopefully the CTS-V coupe (CTC?) will get the full blown LS9.

You’re spot on about the Cadillac Sixteen…I have a 1:18 scale model in my collection….and I can’t help but imagine what could have been whenever I look at that thing….
