First, this post dovetails nicely with the Ask the B&B question on homoerotic truck ads. I mean, if the testosterone-laden Torque.tv's announcer's tongue isn't firmly in his cheek, well… Anyway, the video also suggest a click on over to Paul Niedermeyer's excellent editorial on the coming showdown between the 2010 Prius and the 2010 Honda Hybrid. Personally, I find the producer's choice of cartoon clown xylophone background music a bit OTT. But I'm glad the torque team pointed out that a properly-flogged Prius can suck more unleaded than a 'Vette. It brings back fond memories of the time I tried to discover how much gas I could use in a Prius. I never got it below 17mpg. Guess I wasn't trying hard enough.

OK that was just flat hilarious! Had CocaCola coming out my nose, I was laughing so hard.
That’ll teach me to try to eat lunch while at TTAC I guess.
I believe that the driver was in the Honda, not the Prius, when he said that it sucks more gas than a Corvette.
I’m more amazed that he got a cell phone call at Willow Springs. My phone never works out there, and that was earlier this year. I have to drive over to Rosamond before I get any bars. Hmmmmm….
Can’t watch the video at work (Blocked site); so I’ll have to check it out at home. But, Top Gear did a similar comparo driving a Mercedes and a Prius hard around their track. Needless to say the Mercedes got better gas mileage under those conditions (hard acceleration and braking).
Too funny. Reminds me of a pop band that performed with toy instruments.
In other news, when Garbage Trucks Magazine tested a Porsche 911, they found that the vehicle truly was not up to the job, carried way too little garbage, making for a terrible garbage truck efficiency quotient because the vehicle consumed tons of fuel by only being able to carry a tiny load in the front luggage compartment, and had to make 1287 trips to the dump vs. one trip for the White garbage compactor in their comparison test.
Not to mention that the spark plugs in the Porsche started to load up with the stop & start cycle when tested against the White.
(OK you can take your tongue out of your cheek now, and so will I).
Top Gear tested the Prius vs a M3.
Having driven both the Honda and Toyota, I preferred the Honda. The prius feels like a tin can, and it feels way to firm thanks to it’s special hard tires that are supposed to get better fuel economy. Also Honda’s IMA isn’t integral to run the car, so it still works with a failure in the system. If you have an issue with Hybrid Synergy Drive, the car is usellees and you’re calling AAA. You can also get the Honda with a manual trans.

Thanks for the clarification. At least I got the country of origin correct for the Prius competittion on Top Gear. :-0
At the risk of sounding like I missed the point of the video entirely, how does a car with comparable weight but a much faster 1/4 mile and more responsive handling (indeed, even a marginally better weight distribution) turn a slower lap time? I mean the civic does have a 2 mph edge in top speed, but man they must have run these cars flat out.
I’m sorry, were there cars in that video? I was just looking at the track and thinking how badly I want run that track on my bike…
“The Civic Hybrid just looks like a Civic, and goes fast backwards.”
Expert assessment…
That “half-fast” xylophone music is secret code for “we don’t take these cars seriously”.
