TTAC NEVER closes comments. It’s ALWAYS an administrative mistake. Sorry about that.

Attack ads always make me lose respect for candidates, no matter which side is doing the attacking.

The same thing is going on in Canada right now.

I’ll be voting for the Greens as they seem to do the least amount of attacking (even though they have no chance of winning many seats).

Ditto. It was bad before the Karl Rove era but it’s ratcheted up to a whole new level since then, largely because it’s proven effective, or at least low-effort. When what substitutes for intelligent debate in the media is soundbites, you can hardly fault the candidate’s support staff for providing bullet-points for the demagogues.

What’s especialy depressing is that the actual candidates don’t tend to be nearly as brutal in what they actually say. I don’t know if it’s hypocrisy on the part of the candidate, or overzealousness on the part of the campaign managers. Probably both.

    Hey, me too!

What a bunch of crap…..and of course the Obama camp forgot to mention that the car he used to drive (until he ditched it ’cause it didn’t make him appear “green” enough) was a Chrysler built in Canada. That purchase sure helped the UAW crowd in Michigan.

And did they really run the VIN on McCain’s Accord to verify it wasn’t built in Ohio???

I hope the greens get a few seats this election. I just can’t bring myself to vote for any other party (they’ve all pissed me off in some way).

Unless you live in Michigan and work for GM, Ford or Chrysler, why would you want to help these walking corpses of companies? Obama, thank you for pointing out how ill equipped you are to handle economic issues. Ironic as it was McCain who fessed up to not understanding much about economics.

Ok so now it’s a crime to own 13 cars and have 3 THREE of them be foreign. That makes 10 cars American that he has purchased. Dumbass Obama only bought ONE little itty bitty car. I say this ad makes Obama look stupid, which confirms what I thought about him.

McCain sent $150,000+ in car purchases to Michigan
    Obama sent $30,000-40,000
    Who wins?

I guess Obama forgets we live in a free country, or what’s left of our freedom, NOT the USSR where we have to buy Russian, I mean American made cars. Build what we want and stop trying to force the other 49 to buy your crap.

This is effing pathetic. It’s like little children calling eachother names; the seriousness of the narrator’s voice just makes it more ridiculous. What a dire circumstance, that Sen. McCain owns a Honda. I shake my head in disbelief that I actually have to choose between either of these two dickheads to “lead” my country.

I think only Dennis Kucinich can talk crap about other politicians cars. He drives a Focus.
I hardly see any campaign ads for President. Living in New York the results are generally regarded as a foregone conclusion.
I wonder what the other 10 cars are.

What? And McCain’s “Obama supported teaching sex ed to kindergarteners” ad didn’t make McCain look stupid?

Sorry if I don’t think teaching kindergarteners the concept of “good touch, bad touch” is a bad thing.

Obama has disappointed me several times in the course of this election, but I haven’t seen anything yet that proves he’s somehow dumber than McCain.

He’s just pandering and you know it. This is just a ploy to get votes from Michiganders.

In my family, all the flaming liberals have foreign cars (mostly US made Hondas). The two right wing conservatives drive GMC Yukon XLs. Kind of ironic considering the source of this ad.

    Pure crap.

I’m not voting for the RepubliCrat party in this election, but in defense Johnny Mac: I’d say that between 10 American vehicles and, what was it– 5 years as a POW, he’s more than paid his dues…

John McCain actually only owns 1 car. Its a CTS. His wife owns the rest. Although I don’t know what the others are, it may have something to do with her being a car nut and an drifting enthusiast. And yes, this is 100% factually accurate. (sorry I didn’t provide a source, I can’t remember where I read this but I did so several times on several different sites)

I’ll vouch for EngineeringTheAtom’s facts. I’ve read the same.

McCain is too mentally addled to drive safely, so I care what he drives only in the sense that I’d rather he didn’t.

I think it’s safe to say he has established a whole spate of new dues to replace his old ones, from his support for US-backed torture to his dumb-as-a-brick VP candidate. Every sentence out of Palin’s mouth is one of: random gibberish, a brazen lie, or an ad hominem attack. This woman is likely to be president within the next four years if you vote for McCain.

    Have some freaking perspective, people.

It speaks to the need for more parties in the US:

The Republicans need someone to draw off the social conservatives (trucks drivers, preferably made by companies that don’t provide same-sex benefits; gun rack in back, thanks) from the economic ones (who don’t give a damn what they drive, provided the government doesn’t, either; gun rack optional).

The Democrats need someone to bleed off the trade unionists and protectionists (despairingly close the social-conservative Republicans, except that they work in a union shop and/or just immigrated) from the social leftists (bicycles and Birkenstocks).

I bet there’s some uber left leaning individuals (who hate American cars only because they’re American cars and have no other reason) who’s heads exploded after seeing that commercial. At the very least the conflicting notions caused some of them to have strokes.

Yes, some of the ads “approved” by either candidate are actually approved by the campaign; they’re trying to match each other tit-for-tat for “over the line” ads. I’m sure that both candidates are too busy to do anything other than “rubber stamp” ads that they’ve likely never seen beforehand.

    “Doesn’t heart transplants…”
    You clever devils, you!

I had to watch the vid to see the connection…

    Redbarchetta,

Perhaps you failed to notice that since last week you live in one of the biggest socialist countries in the world right up there with China, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela (by market cap maybe even the beiggest). So don’t forget to vote McCain to overtake China and take the top spot; McCain being the official successor to the crypto-socialist Bush.

As an actual socialist, I find this statement funny, incensing and tragically ironic all at the same time.
