George Clooney, the celebrity noted for breaking into Casinos, bringing a little compassion to Fred Friendly, breaking out of prison, double-killing vampires, and being a pretty lousy Batman is expanding his resume. This time, he’s doing an ad for the Japanese domestic market Honda Odyssey (completely different from the American version) over in Milan. And that’s a global world for you: American actor, Italian film set, car that’ll be sold only in Asia.

Why is it that the Euro Honda is so much more appealing? Not to compete with the Acura?
Just curious…
Well that’s a Japan-only Honda.
In Europe Honda charges a bit more for their cars. They try to market as “cheaper BMWs.”
George, you sold out Toyota!

Oh man, that was one bad Batman movie. I can’t stand the guy’s politics, but I like most of his movies.
I always find it amusing at how many A-list actors and actresses won’t make ads in America because they want Americans to think that pitching products is somehow beneath them, but then think that it’s okay to do this Europe and Japan.

There is no Euro Acura, is there?
Last winter in Prague I saw the Honda Legend. Amazing, they ditched the Legend name in the US, but are using it for upscale Hondas in Prague that have AWD.

99% of Americans will never get to watch Japanese commercials where they endorse Pocky Sticks. So their image in the US remains intact while they cash Japanese checks and no one’s the wiser.
Yeah, a not-so-secret is that Clooney’s a corporate whore elsewhere, but in the U.S. he’s just a whiney celebrity and self-certified genius.
