Well, now that NBC’s lawyers have swooped down on the net like a helicopter appearing from out of nowhere, we can’t warn you not to click on a link to the entire episode of last night’s Knight Rider– the only TV show in the history of the world (ever) that can make Bewitched seem like Beowulf. Watch the preview above, but do not view the latest episode of the latest Knight Rider; you will never get that 42:38 seconds back. But if you feel you must, I highly recommend Autoblog’s live blog log as the best way to navigate to/around the truly excrutiating bits. Normally, Autoblog’s unabashed, puppy-dog-like love of all things automotive makes their PR-inspired analysis the equivalent of listening to an over-earnest co-worker describing a particularly boring meeting while he’s pissing in the adjacent urinal. But this time, Alex Nunez provides us with comic friggin’ gold. Or, if you prefer, haiku hilarity. “8:08: A Cobra (helicopter) shoots a missile at our fearless heroes. It is the world’s slowest missile.” I swear this is Autoblog’s. Best. Post. Ever.

It is odd the way Autoblog has decided to vilify a silly little TV show of no consequence whatsoever. Oh, wait, maybe that’s why they are doing it….

no consequence? It’s one huge commercial for Ford. I have to imagine at least a few morons will buy KITT Mustangs just to “be like KITT.”

I’m glad I didn’t watch it, AB’s blog was enough.

Man, I’m glad Autoblog is ridiculing this show, as we all should be. I dislike it for the same reason I dislike the cheesecake babe pics that caused such controversy – it makes car guys look like silly dopes who care nothing for writing or plot and are interested solely in some dumb super-car with fire coming out the tailpipe and stuff. My heart tells me that there isn’t a market for muddled garbage, a show with a premise that would appeal only to 12 year old boys but is targeted at 30 year old men, but then my brains remind me that people hate to think and love to gawk at explosions.

That said, here are the US box office numbers for the Fast and the Furious series, as taken from IMDB:
The Fast and the Furious: $144,512,310
    2 Fast 2 Furious: $127,083,765
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift: $62,494,975

Aww dang, I can’t watch it because I am in Canada, where the pile is actually filmed, or parts of it at least.

I think the best video to come out of the new knight Rider camp was the youtube video of the new KITT getting stolen.

Well, it was easy enough to find the eight minute mark and watch the world’s slowest missile. This is not the cheesy, homoerotic Knight Rider I remember. It’s more like the cheesy, homoerotic Batman I remember. Pure camp.

Actually I caught about 5 minutes of the show where some chickiebaby was caught by some bad guys and the hero had to fight a bunch of morons to try and help her. It was ridiculous even for a network TV show. Can you imagine the mental state of someone, old enough to drive, who would actually buy a KITT Mustang? The horror.

Excellent…. just like the brilliant MST3K series!

    I think I just enlisted.

I will admit I have season one of the original Knight Rider on DVD. It’s pretty corny, except for the 2-hr pilot which was pretty well written and directed for a TV movie.

But nothing tops the heap of this new one. Maybe if the ‘hoff dresses up as Garth again. That would be sweet.

Holy cats, so much hatred for such a harmless piece of fluff!

Take a trip to yesteryear and watch the 110% Hoff-powered original. It was not exactly Masterpiece Theatre either.

However to a 10-year old kid, it was great! Try putting the kid glasses on and see what you think about KR 2.0.

PS- I dare anyone to say that they didn’t want a KITT-spec Trans-Am back then! Best quote I remember from the orignal series: “The question is not how fast does it go but how fast do you want it to go?”

I think about the time the car morphed from one thing to another (all the wings and vents) in the pilot episode is about the time I swore Nightrider off for the second time.

I’m sure plenty of folks will declare it entertaining but it was not what I was looking for in a TV show.

Also the Ford product placements are distracting. So KITT, all the bad guys’ cars, and all of the primary character’s cars are all Fords? Riiiight.

Product placement needs to be MUCH more subtle than that. As in halfway thorugh the show somebody is driving a Ford that looks interesting and you wonder what it is. Hopefully that question gets answered with a glimpse of a Ford logo somewhere and an intelligent person goes to the Ford website for more info.

Heard something on NPR: Verisimilitude may be the name of the game, but Commercial Alert’s Weissman thinks shows need to do a better job of disclosing product integration. His solution — which is also advocated by the Writer’s Guild of America West — is to require shows to insert a crawl to let us know when we’re seeing integrated products. This idea may not delight TV viewers already sick of the parade of crawls, banners and pop-ups already crowding the lower third of their screens.”

There are benefits to living in Canada where I can’t watch the video. Thank heaven for small mercies.

Cheezy, but hey, what can they do?

No worse than the world’s slowest tank shell in IronMan. I didn’t realize you could actually bob and weave around those things.

    Best. Commentary. Ever.

    My personal favorite:

8:30: Commercial for “Eagle Eye” is better than the entire first half-hour of Knight Rider. Also, Olive Garden commercial is better than Knight Rider, too.

I was only a kid when the first Knight Rider series was on television. I loved it, and desperately wanted to like this new one. I watched until they managed to put the fire out, and revive Mike and the girl. Thats all I could take.

    Great Autoblog commentary.

The “super napalm” fire heating-up KITT was the lamest plot device I’ve ever seen (except in a pron movie) to get the lead characters to remove their clothes.

My favorite part was how a Marine Corps attack helicopter appears suddenly over a major urban district to fire a missile at some guy in a Mustang. But then again nothing else in the show made a lick of sense either…

How many remakes, or “continuations” as the tool said in the video, are anywhere close to the original?

Funny how all these blogs have the time to even write about a show that sucks more than the tv crap we have been watching the past decade. Get over it and don’t write about it or watch the show.

We got reality shows that are worse than this. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. We don’t need to read articles every week about how horrible the show is. Sorry, for the rant, but I’ve read so many articles today about knight rider and most comments are plain ridiculous for a show about a talking car. And a headline like this is just plain dumb.

If we should just be avoiding things we dislike, shouldn’t you be, uh, ignoring this article?

I wonder if the Garth ‘stache is in the Smithsonian? Best evil prop ever! I do wish my car could alter the dice at a craps table…
