Huh. I’ve been playing the crap out of this game for a couple weeks after borrowing it from a co-worker. I never even noticed the billboards other than the ones you intentionally drive-through, and I’ve always been going too fast to notice what they say.
cwallace, I’ve played most of the Burnout games before this one. If you like crash time, skip this one.
Strange — isn’t Obama, metrosexual that he is, against powerful cars? Doesn’t he, like, want to take everyone’s personal transportation away forever? (Don’t laugh — could be, deep down.)
“I guess being a comedy writer isn’t that difficult.”
Good work, I’d say you nailed it. Odd, because according to the professionals, there’s absolutely nothing funny – damnit!- about the Obama. And wipe that smirk off your face!
Why attack Obama for this? And honestly, the only ones calling him “Lord” are those who don’t support him. Intelligent attack.
And about ACORN-yes, they’ve done wrong. Honestly, if we’re going to talk about faults with candidates, this could go on endlessly. Keating Five anyone? No one’s perfect.
Strange — isn’t Obama, metrosexual that he is, against powerful cars? Doesn’t he, like, want to take everyone’s personal transportation away forever? (Don’t laugh — could be, deep down.)
He was driving a Chrysler 300C before being slammed about it and switching to an escape hybrid. So it looks like he does like powerful cars, after all – that thing had a HEMI.
He was driving a Chrysler 300C before being slammed about it and switching to an escape hybrid
Why do politicians always drive domestic cars? Your average Toyota or Honda is built in the US with just as many (or more) domestic parts than the Detroit 2.8. If I ever run for office I sure ain’t trading my Honda in on a Saturn just for vote getting.
Seems like pretty smart advertising targeting. Young adult men don’t watch television or listen to broadcast radio so video games seem like a logical place to get to them.
*Insert asinine, baseless partisan attack*, that’s my opinion of Barack HUSSEIN OSAMA! Damn A-rab! And MEXICANS is votin’ for him 10 times a day! I comes to TTAC to attack candidates, not talk about cars! Finally, an opportunity to productively further the national debate!
I mean, great insight so far.
Personally, I think this is an interesting move on the part of the Obama campaign, they’re pioneering and developing many previously underused advertising/fundraising avenues. It seems silly to invest in advertising in a relatively permanent medium for a campaign that will be over in less than a month. It’ll get the 18-24 demographic’s attention, though, and it gets the campaign in the news, so I guess there’s a win.
Saying ACORN has done wrong is like saying Rick Wagoner isn’t that great of a CEO. ACORN has been registering dead people to vote. That’s a Federal offense where if convicted, they’ll have a chance to register inmates in person to vote and will have lots of time to do it.
When will ANY Obama supporter actually admit their candidate has a serious judgment problem?
And the attack on Obama for the billboard is correct – his campaign paid for that ad space in the game.
TV ads? Good
Newspaper ads? Good
Internet ads? Good
Radio ads? Good
Billboards? Good
Video Game? Hold on folks there’s somethin’ fishy here.
jkross22: Last I’ve checked Obama is not involved with ACORN, nor has he ever been. They’ve endorsed him, and that appears to be it. In terms of fraud, they’ve worked with investigators, and the national organization has yet to be linked to voter fraud. In other words they’ve turned up bad employees committing fraud, but no evidence of a national level conspiracy.
Is this just a static ad, or are they serving live, relevant ads in video games yet?
This seems like smart use of technology, but a dumb understanding of demographics. The slice of the market this is aimed at is one of the most overtly-marketed-to in history; it’s also one of the hardest to market because of sheer saturation levels that result in ads getting entirely ignored. Even some of the most well-crafted viral campaigns have trouble with this group.

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but that is one incredibly uninformed statement — so uninformed, in fact, it boggles the mind. Out here on these Internets, there’s plenty of information right at your fingertips to show that Obama’s all over ACORN like flies on shit, like white on rice, like TTAC on cars. …
AKM: He was driving a Chrysler 300C before being slammed about it and switching to an escape hybrid. So it looks like he does like powerful cars, after all – that thing had a HEMI.
Well, all I can say is that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely — to the point of converting someone who likes to roll in full-size, bitchin’ style overnight into a greenie wussbag. About the only thing even semi-cool about Obama’s new ride is that he’s supporting one of those American-owned car companies.
Yes, I’m back. I have to focus my efforts on fighting the heathens where they’re most likely to destroy our country first. And, lately, that’s been on political blogs, not car blogs. There’s two things to fight for, as I see it, an American-owned automotive industry and an American-owned America, and I’ve had to devote all my resources to pulling for the latter ever since late August.
As a heathen, I must say that I approve of Obama’s ad in this video game because it clearly proves that he’s going to a)take and burn our bibles and churches, b)is personally corrupting the democratic process (please check my absurdly partisan references for proof) and c) a terrorist. That’s 3 checks in the plus column for America-hating liberals like me.
Blech, in my opinion, this News post isn’t really car-related enough to justify the inevitable flame war. It’s great that we all have opinions on the election, but dang it would be nice to step away from our partisanship to just talk cars for a while.
Please give evidence of Obama’s close relationship with ACORN. The evidence linking Obama to the organization goes this far:
“What deserves closer scrutiny is Barack Obama’s history with ACORN. Obama cites Saul Alinsky, a self-acknowledged radical who advocated extreme acts to achieve social goals, as one of his inspirations. ACORN follows the Saul Alinsky model. After Obama graduated from Harvard, he went to work for ACORN in Chicago. Mr. Obama then became a trainer for ACORN, teaching others how to employ ACORN tactics in voter registration drives.”
Wonderful logic of course. Once, Obama worked for them, thus everything that this organization does; and I mean EVER, is directly the doing of Barrack Obama. Also, this is why Obama is a domestic terrorist.
Btw, brilliant use of a the “power corrupts” cliche. Nothing epitomizes that more than a politician who has to trade in V8 powered sedan under political pressure. What a corrupt corrupt person.
brent: I probably need to clarify, I can’t find evidence that Obama was actually a part of ACORN. Yes he represented them in a lawsuit, yes they have endorsed him and he does support their stated goals. I have yet to see anything that connects Obama to any fraudulent actions by the group.
I’ll go ahead and say that I’ve drawn most of my opinions off news reports (CNN, NBC, USA today, St. Louis post dispatch) as well as websites for the GOP and Obama (gop.com and fightthesmears).
So since it’s just a bunch of lower level ACORN folks doing this (in Colorado, DC, Missouri, etc.), that makes it okay. Direction comes from the top, even when it’s done with a wink and a nod. Kinda sounds like GM.
Now, ACORN might argue that they hired unethical people who sat at home, made up names and addresses and turned them in anyway. It’s still ACORN’s responsibility to provide accurate information if it’s their name at the top of the form. If that’s the case, then they’re simply buffoons and incompetents rather than the underhanded cheats they appear to be now. Again, eerily similar to GM.
Obama funneled money to ACORN through the Woods Fund in Chicago when he sat on the board with… Bill Ayers!
It’s the GOP site, but everything cited there is from newspapers of record.
And if you’re gonna tell me you won’t believe a partisan source, then don’t believe Obama’s site, either. Yes, that means “fightthesmears.org,” an Obama-funded website whose very name is predicated upon a false premise: that anything the site posts is, by default, a smear to be fought. Talk about “wonderful logic.”
As for my use of the “power corrupts” cliche, it’s about the nuance of putting a new twist on a cliche in order to render that cliche, if only for a fleeting moment, no longer a cliche.
*Obama Was Part Of Team Of Lawyers Who Represented ACORN In A Suit Against The State Of Illinois. “Obama was part of a team of attorneys who represented the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in 1995 for failing to implement a federal law designed to make it easier for the poor and others to register as voters.” (Mike Robinson, “Obama Got Start In Civil Rights Practice,” The Associated Press, 2/20/07)
His co-counsel was the Dept. of Justice. Is this supposed to be damning? You do realize ACORN’s charter is to get the poor to participate in being citizens, right?
* Obama’s Campaign “Paid More Than $800,000” To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally
An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in ‘get-out-the-vote’ projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.
Seriously, you’re outraged by this? The FEC report was amended. They paid the bill, what’s your objection exactly?
* Obama Directed Project Vote And Later Taught Classes For “Future Leaders Identified By ACORN And The Centers For New Horizons.”
So what? Why exactly is leading classes for kids at risk to motivate them to achieve, a bad thing?
* The Chicago ACORN Received Grants Of $45,000 (2000), $30,000 (2001), $45,000 (2001), $30,000 (2002), And $40,000 (2002) From The Woods Fund
…and Barack Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund (a charity). Again, so what?
Suffice it to say, he’s represented ACORN as an attorney in a civil rights case, given his time to ACORN to help youth, been endorsed by ACORN, paid a subsidiary of ACORN for work on his campaign, and served on the board of a charity that has given grants to ACORN.
The funny thing about the Burnout series is that the game encourages- no, is BUILT AROUND WRECKING YOUR RIDE IN INCREASINGLY SPECTACULAR FASHION. The McCain camp could use this as cannon fodder if they ever stop talking about Bill Ayers.
Oh, and it appears that other EA games are doing this- Madden, Need for Speed ProStreet, FIFA… probably Spore, too… hell, I’ve seen some create-a-character Obama and McCain lookalikes in Soulcalibur IV, so let’s count that, too. (Change you can believe in… like Ivy’s gigantic milk jugs that are bigger than her freaking head…)
Oh well, at least Midnight Club LA finally releases next week. I’ll be getting the PS3 version, since it has trophies, so if you want to get run off of the road online, my PSN ID is tifosiotaku.
(TTAC should do more racing video game news. I’m just sayin’…)
…and Barack Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund (a charity). Again, so what?
Calling the Woods Fund a “charity” is pretty disingenuous. Obama (and Ayers) used both the Woods Fund and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge to funnel millions of dollars to left wing and radical projects. The CAC was supposed to improve education, but $100 million was disbursed with no measurable improvements in Chicago’s public schools. Under Obama’s direction, however, CAC did give money to projects run by Ayers (Small Schools Project) etc., Wright (money given to Afrocentric charlatans) and Klonsky (another radical 60s leftover).
During the 1980’s McCain sat on the board of the U.S. Council for Foreign Relations. This is a Taiwan and South Korean funded ulta right organization that attracted anti-semite, Contra supporting terrorists. His group of subversives broke the U.S. prohibition on selling arms to Iran and providing funds and guns to the Nicaraguan Contra terrorists. Joh McCain = Terrorist.

This is the only game in the Burnout series I don’t have… and I guess it’ll stay that way.
Well thanks to his pals at Acorn, those underage gamers can now vote! Praise be to Lord Obama!
They’re voting early and voting often here in Ohio.

Prediction for tonight’s Leno/Letterman/Daily Show take on this:
“Did you hear Obama is doing in game advertising in video games? Yeah, well McCain has responded by doing in game advertising for Tiddlywinks.”
I guess being a comedy writer isn’t that difficult.
But apparently being a funny one is.

If you can buy ads on TV, why not in games? It targets one of his core demographics after all.
There’s a version of “Crack Wars” where you actually get to play Obama!
