Nissan’s hefty summer incentives were no match for September’s carnage, with division sales down 38.4%. The Rogue was the only vehicle in positive territory with 5,504 sold, only because very few of them slipped off the boat and onto sales lots one year ago. Everything else was down well into double-digit percent territory: Versa down 12 percent, Sentra down 34 percent, Altima down 42 percent, the new Maxima down 19 percent. The truck side saw horrendous drops with most products in the minus 60 to 80 percent territory. Infiniti fared hardly better, -24%, with the shine off the G37 coupe (down 55 percent) and the new FX (down 15 percent). Godzilla watch: 341 GT-R’s this month, 1052 YTD.

I wonder how many 350Z’s were sold. With a replacement coming in the next few months, they have to be down a bit, I assume…
@ferrarimanf355:
524. Down from 1199 last Sept.
October will possibly be worse. What person of sound mind is in the new car or truck market right now? Maybe those who just lost their car to a totaled out wreck, but who else?
Is there any data on internet new car inquiries which might give us a hint at current trends? Even that data is suspect though as in tight money times the buyers out there might be doing a great deal more online research and bargaining then they would if they felt flush.
Do we know anything about the final week of September compared to a similar period last year?
You’re looking at current trends in these sales figures–they’re for the month that ended yesterday.
What’s going to happen in October? With everyone worried about their savings, can’t be good.
Another month like September and Nissan will be handing out pink slips. Locally, the Titans and Frontier crew cabs are stacking up in the dealer overflow lots. That’s costing someone some money.
A Nissan dealership here just went belly up. They are auctioning off their equipment in the near future.
Where is “here”, NickR?
I was at Elk Grove (Sacramento, CA) Nissan/Infiniti just the other day for an oil change and it was dead, dead, dead. No lookee-loos. The whole auto mall was a ghost town. I counted 7 Altima hybrids—6 strippers and 1 loaded; tons of Sentras, G’s and FX’s. I’d love a new car but I love not having a payment even more.
Buying a car right now, used or new, is so far off my radar screen it’s sad. I’d love a new ride, but I need cash more.
