Our guys on the front line tell us that GM has just launched a nationwide coupon program called “Garage Mate.” The General has mailed an unspecified number of consumers a $2k-off coupon good for every 2008 AND 2009 vehicle The General sells (including the Pontiac G8). The two grand is on top of any and every other available discount. More info as it becomes available.

“Garage Mate” why does that name not sound smart. Maybe I’m the only one who gets the image of being under the hood of a non running car in the garage trying to fix it when I read that. It just doesn’t sound like something that is going to bring back customers especially the ones who left because their GM blew up, like me.
Garage Mate? My first association was: “Sounds like Shop Vac. It sucks”
Then I consulted Wikipedia:
“Mate (pronounced IPA: [ˈmate]) is an infusion, containing stimulants including caffeine[1], prepared by steeping dried leaves of yerba mate (Spanish) / erva-mate (Portuguese) (Ilex paraguariensis) in hot water.”
I’m impressed now. GM has its marketing down to a tea.
Redbarchetta -> Exactly!
Can you stack these coupons? I’ll buy peoples 2k coupons for $200 if you can stack them :)
Bartel Schmitt, that post was downright brilliant!
Hmm…if I can just get past the idea of driving a piece of unadulterated crap, the local Chevy store has a stripped Aveo advertised for around $10K. So if I get my hands on one of these coupons, I could end up with a brand-new car for around $8,000? Sounds like an interesting plan for a third vehicle…
