It might sound crazy, but I feel kinda sorry for Bob Lutz, having to sit there and justifying Wagoner. I think he’s actually well aware that GM is beyond good and evil. I mean just look at him, he looks as if he’s going to burst out in tears any second.
Of course, none of this has to do with continuing to stuff the market with cars by selling them at a loss and financing them at the same time.
Maximum Bob knows better. He must really believe in the ends justifying the means. These guys can’t grow a pair and tell the truth to congress and the American people who they want to borrow money from? Why are they afraid?
Why couldn’t they let him finish on CAFE? We might have heard something worthwhile.
Meanwhile, who is responsible for Becky Quick’s makeover? A few years ago, she was an attractive, credible commentator. Somehow, she got morphed into a glitzy talking head with no credibility. What happened?
This proves once again these people need to be tossed out.
What an embarrassing interview. GM management should volunteer to resign to clear the way for a bailout.
Since our elected officials can’t stomach Wagoner, the next to the throne is Lutz. There is a public statement and celebratory dance in privacy of his home, when he thinks about control of GM. Never mind that the pay is $1, they never lived on single paycheck anyway.
Back around 1998-1999 I was with Delphi involved with selling a certain kind of component that is used in both cars and trucks. I was responsible for both groups. The car group would nit pick the price of every single prototype sold to them. The Truck group would spend anything “just get me the parts by Wednesday”. No control over costs. What this tells me: RW had no idea what the truck group was doing. They were blowing money because they were making money. Maybe this is automotive on a micro scale, but RW wasn’t aware of it? He was fooled by what he leutenants were telling him? Better yet, how could GM release a car that is not competitive and call it good? Isn’t that his responsibility? There’s 2 examples.
This is the same guy who lead the Chrysler product revolution back in the 90s?
I would like to know what they put in the water down in the RenCen. I have some interviews with Lutz from back in the 90s when he was at Chrysler and he sounds like a credible guy. Now he just sounds like an idiot.
I betcha that if the PR guys down at GM would let go of Lutz and just let him speak his mind, he would probably be a favorite of this site. In a good way I mean.
Lutz is great. Very composed, very literate.
I know guys that have worked with him.
One can tell he has a lot of compassion for this subject, at an age where I’ll be happy to be able to breathe, or sit upright and eat oatmeal.
But when the transformations include making the company insolvent and decimating the value of the stock, that’s not a good thing, is it?
By the way, that’s some pretty fancy metal there behind Lutz. He is known to be a collector. For fun and prizes, does anyone want to guess what they are? I suspect that the blue one is an Aston, and the red one, judging from the front end, possibly a big Lancia sedan? Anyone?
Hard to believe Lutz could keep a straight face as he described how firmly lodged it was up Rick’s posterior.
“executive compensation packages that are out of line with their Japanese competitors…” ZING!
Wow…sad grandpa…

Autonut,
Is Lutz descended from aristocracy or something? What do you mean?

He-He. Lutz taking over after Wagoner …
Good thing my taxes aren’t going to the US, what a waste.

He is at home on a Monday when they are supposed to be working hard on saving GM?
Looks like even Bob Lutz does not have GM cars in his garage either.
Do the higher ups at GM just sit around and read thesauruses all day… They whip out some obscure vocabulary words, especially Wagoner.

I get the impression that there must be some sort of panic situation on the upper floors of the RenCen in Detroit – but on a very personal level.
It’s kind of like when a good looking women gets socially brushed off – the reaction is that of “This just can’t be happening…..”
Saying Rick is a good CEO is like… oh, I can’t say it without violating Godwin’s Law…
Rick Wagoner has made…”enormous transformations”…
But when the transformations include making the company insolvent and decimating the value of the stock, that’s not a good thing, is it?

“We are the only company bringing a fully electric vehicle to market” ???
How can this guy just plain lie on the teevee like that ? Tesla, Mitsubishi, Think, Aptera and quite a few others are calling ..
I think the blue one is a DB-2, and I wonder if the red and black one might be a Cunningham…
“The last large scale manufacturing industry the United States has…”
(Idiot) Bob should fly his jet out to Seattle and have a look at Mulally’s former employer!
Good Eye Mr Wilkinson, that is indeed a Cunningham C3 Vignale Coupe.
