The bad news is that GM is so desperate for cash, it’s literally selling off its glorious past. Jalopnik reports that GM is auctioning off “many recent and slightly less-important vehicles from its Heritage museum Collection.” The good news? This is your chance to save GM, and get your hands on some of the products that once made GM the largest corporation in the world. As well as tons of the products that brought The General from there to Barrett-Jackson in search of cash flow. Plus some other random stuff (Pug 205 Turbo?). The auction will take place January 13-19, 2009 in Scottsdale, AZ. Mystifyingly, GM is even listed as a sponsor. So go on down and do your patriotic duty, and take a teal 1998 Riviera for the team. Or just gaze once more at the Art and Colour of General Motors wile crying softly. Full list of former GM Heritage Museum Collection vehicles on the auction block after the jump.

WTF is a 2000 Firebird Trans Am Darth Vader?

  • avatar
    Verbal

I’m all over the 2004 Aveo Xtreme. Oh yeah.

  • avatar
    no_slushbox

There is also a 1995 Cutlass Darth Vader. Many WTFs are there listed above.

    http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/your_garage/cars/7529.shtml

I guess the Darth Vader thing is to indicated its a concept car that is black and sinister looking.

I can’t find anything on the more recent Darth cars, but the above is of an 85 Oldsmobile Darth Vader II.

I wonder if the 1918 Caddy is working… if I had that I’d join the Shriners and drive it in parades.

    no_slushbox

I’d take the 1987 Fiero GT Convertible, or maybe the 1994 Impala SS 6 Speed.

My choices don’t have much collector value, but there is a ton of prime stuff that GM is dumping into this down market.

  • avatar
    highrpm

And yet GM is still throwing money at NASCAR.

  • avatar

Well I guess Barrett-Jackson would be beneficial for once with their assinine over-bloated final prices.

  • avatar

Speaking of cars that look like Darth Vader, how about that black, first one built 2001 Pontiac Aztek.

  • avatar
    Polishdon

Actually, what’s wrong with this. You are protraying this as something strange.

The Big Three use to sell their concepts cars from time to time. I’m actually suprised that GM/Ford/Chrysler did not do this already! It’s easy liquid cash and

    “SUPRISE”

It’s EXACTLY what people do to raise cash (i.e. eBay, Craigslist, Flea Markets, Consignment Stores, etc) But somehow, it’s a bad thing…

    I’m confused ???

  • avatar
    RetardedSparks

Wouldn’t they be better off just putting the whole collection up as collateral for some real money?

I mean it will cost more to transport some of that stuff to AZ than they’ll get for it.

    A six-pack of HHR’s anyone?

BTW, GM is probably listed as a sponsor due the quantity of commission BJ will get on 100-ish cars!

  • avatar
    phargophil

This looks like the equivalent volume of the 2009 GM auto production for all brands.

Maybe this will allow the plants to stay closed a little longer.

WTF is a 2000 Firebird Trans Am Darth Vader?

G3, I am your father. Nooooooooo!

  • avatar
    toxicroach

GM is hawking the family silver, that’s why its a bad thing.

  • avatar
    dean

    mcs: brilliant!

There is a whole lot of cars on that list that have pretty much zero resale value, let alone collector value.

  • avatar
    Cicero

Is there cash on the hood of any of ’em?

  • avatar
    Diewaldo

GM has two Peugeot 205 Turbos?

Hell … if I could get one of these …

  • avatar
    mcs

I’m all over the 2004 Aveo Xtreme. Oh yeah.

I looked it up. It’s painted in “Fritz-the-Katt Lime Green” and has an earth shaking 103 bhp.

  • avatar
    tom

Wow, how desperate can it get? How much money will GM make with this? A couple of million? For a company that loses a billion (or more?) a month, this is merely a drop in the bucket. Pays the bills for one day, if that.

  • avatar
    mcs

    1955 Buick Century Bolero

This sounds like the car to have for a drive-in movie date with Bo Derek.

  • avatar
    porschespeed

GM is hawking the family silver, that’s why its a bad thing.

Methinks the air hangs thick with desperation.

But, to me it appears more like they’re gonna go out drinking with the proceeds – not stay home eating Ramen and Chef Boyardee.

Even though I am no fan of GM, it is rather sad.

  • avatar
    LastResort

I’d give serious appendages for a Peugeot 205 Turbos.

  • avatar
    Redbarchetta

It looks like they tried to slip a bunch of unsold trucks and SUVs with new paint jobs into the last. Some real heratige they are also getting rid of. The really old classis is the sad part not so much the concept. At what point do you sell your dads Babe Ruth rookie card that he told you to cherish on his death bed, right before you are about to become homeless, GM is up sh*ts creek.

The one thing I couldn’t stop thinking of was where do they keep ALL those cars and how much did it cost them to store and upkeep most of that old stuff for decades, that is a bunch of wasted money for what a 1989 Zonker, 1980 Pontiac Grand Am Pickup, 1991 Caprice Classic, 2004 Ion Red Line, 2001 Bravada Indy Pace, and many more who cares cars. I guess they still haven’t stopped flushing money down the toilet just because they can.

What is this 1985 Calais “MSU” does it help with ED?

  • avatar
    tomaxhawk

There are not many cars from the 80’s on this list. Better not to acknowledge that shameful era.
Whats a Zonker? and can I have one in Strawberry?
Aveo & Malibu Xtreme – for when your penalty box just doesn’t have enough edge..
    Grand Am Pick-up?
A lot of these things are ‘lifestyle’ or race promotion versions of GM products it would seem.
How much for that HHR floral?
A fun list anyway. Too bad I never got to the Heritage Museum.

    2001 Aztek First Built (Black)

Hmmm…wonder how much they’d pay me to take it?

1991 Caprice Classic! Where do I sign up?

  • avatar

Right now GM is just cleaning out the closets and selling a few white elephants.

We’ll know they are really desperate when they decide to sell the family jewels – all of those Harley Earl era dream cars.

  • avatar
    hltguy

Damn, not on the list, I was looking to get my hands of a ’77 Chevette

  • avatar
    Lumbergh21

I take it those pace cars are the actual in the race pace cars not just one of the 100+ that they supply for VIPs and then auction off. those should bring some serious coin, but not nearly enough to make any difference in GM’s bottom line. Heck the whole lot wouldn’t pay Rabid Rick’s salary particularly with all of his performance bonuses for the wonderful job he is doing.

  • avatar

    @Verbal :
I’m all over the 2004 Aveo Xtreme. Oh yeah.

    Holy cow.
    http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic.php?imagenum=1&carnum=1799

    $10,000 car. $20,000 modifications.
Massive love for the 5 point restraints.

I saw the 2008 Aveo Xtreme at the Chicago Auto Show.

I know Ricers aren’t usually the smartest people in the world, but this is an extra special sort of crazy, here.

  • avatar
    bjcpdx

    Let me at that Eldorod!!!

  • avatar

All other things equal, in terms of collectibility, even the more mundane cars on this list get a bump for GM’s provenance. I’ve never been in GM Heritage museum but it is, after all, a museum, so the cars should be close to 100 pt cars. I mean I don’t know how many people will bid on a 1994 Tracker Kalahari, but if you were the sort who collected Trackers, this would be a nice addition to your collection.

Collecting has it’s own psychology. Completists will pay more for something to ‘complete’ their collection, as will specialists. A collector of things Pontiac might pay more for an Oakland or one of Pontiac’s Canadian nameplates.

  • avatar
    obbop

Nary a Vega on the list.

  • avatar
    IronEagle

I’ll take the 1990 Corvette ZR-1 Active (hopefully it comes with extra hydraulic fluid) and the 1991 Syclone pace truck. K thx. Didn’t see an 89 Indy Pace Car Trans Am on the list. Got one of those in back?

I own Darth vader II, great pics and info on the cars on my site..The original is not for sale though, GM doesn’t own it , the RE Olds Museum does, so they can not sell it at BJ auction
