What was up with the first guy’s hair?

God that thing is ugly. What’s with slapping the current 6 series arse on it?

Where is Bangle these days? Still hiding out in an undisclosed location?

Can we just have the 1980s M635 back please?

@arapaima: Yeah that hair freaked me out….

They seemed to have made it a bit more like the Z8. I don’t like that the lines on the side of the body no longer flow along with the roof & windshield lines. The original Z4 design is a work of art in a lot of respects to what he (Mr. Bangle) did. I understand his explanation for the change in the lines on this but meh. This is just a boring shuffle of design elements.

The interior looks nice however, I like the bringing back of the 3 gauges in the middle dash.

    Worst haircut ever.

That video was missing something very important…like Clive Owen taking down a chopper with a dust cloud or something.

I think Robert may have been thinking of the top as the other ugly thing. There are only glimpses of the car with the top up and I think they shot the video that way on purpose.

The top didn’t seem like something you’d want to look at for very long.

It is a roadster… aren’t roadsters by definition supposed to come with soft tops? Why does it need the extra weight and expense of a power hard top? It guarantees that I would never want to own one out of warranty.

I let out a little gasp when they showed the front of the car. It was like opening the door on a blind date and she looks like Teen Wolf. What’s up with the giant nostrils?

    No they didn’t!!

I did not just see a “mast antenna” on the left rear of that new Z4.

Even the masters of driving excellence aim to save a few bucks here and there.

Aaargh, I can’t see the video! it goes to the “BETA” BMW TV/video site; but it seems to be broken.

So much hatred on all the online automotive sites over this new Z4. Really guys? It looks… decent. I’ll leave it up to the road tests to decide, but it looks like a blend of Z3 and Z4 – not nearly as angular, ie, not nearly as controversial.

Although the badge makes me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty icepick. Someone’s going to make a fortune debadging these, and all soon to come BMW’s.

Personally I prefer the look of a hard-top over the traditional rag-top. In this case it actually looks good, though slightly phallic.

It’s beautiful. I thought that fender blob on the new 7 looked dumb, though, but here it is again. But what huge fenders; unlike the 3 coupe the front third properly appears longer than the door. Someone once said it to be a general rule that all the nice cars have long front fenders.

Those aren’t gauges across the dash, they’re hvac controls.

What a very nice vehicle indeed this is and will be. Inarguable (but sure, call it ugly). However, fuck that sDrive35i crap—I thought it was bad when the previous Z4 had -M at the end. And fuck the X1. It is creased beyond belief and looks retarded. New X3, [a separate] 3-Series wagon not good enough? And a ssportierr two-door X2? There is too much seat for every ass-ism going on, too much brand dilution. Conversely, I will defend the X6 all day any day.

I saw one today. A white one, with the square exhausts. First time I had seen the v8 version. I informed my passenger.

I watched the video. That big white light on the side looks not good at all. It was so much better when the light was behind le roundel.

The man says “sum it up” a lot.

I like it so much better than version 1. That car was truly ugly and stylistically pointless except for Bangle to say “Look what I can do”.

Not crazy about hard top convertibles. Something about the top just looks odd.

I think it looks good. How much heavier is it? :P

Woah, is that Chareth Cutestory behind the wheel?

I think it looks quite good, but I think I like the previous one better.

I still don’t like the metal folding roof, even if it looks ok it probably adds about 100Kg in weight which you don’t want.
Also, the antenna on the back is hideous and will be broken off by douchebaggy BMW haters.

Hopefully the E85s won’t appreciate too much now…

Several years ago, when BMW began to incentivize Z4 sales due to its extreme ugliness, I drove one thinking that we might replace our S2000. The driving part was quintessentially BMW, yet the looks, even the interior, were enough to say “Keep the S2000.” The Honda does not have BMW’s silky six, but the 9000 rpm redline helps to make up for the lack of the six, and the S2000 simply looks worlds better than the Z4. The new one is helped by the loss of the “Z” coined into the side, but the “lines” spoken of belong on something other than a car.

Sad, because it’s a pretty decent car underneath the godawful livery. Let Audi wrap a body (and interior) around this car and it will sell like hotcakes.

Thanks, I tried that; still no-go. It just sits there with that little flower thingie on the screen, but does not appear to be making any progress, either streaming or downlowading. I suppose I’ll have to try a different browser or PC.

I don’t need a video to get the gist of the matter, though. Really, all I want is to see a pic or two.

I think it looks better than the outgoing model. It might look acceptable by more impressive metrics in white. (giggle)

    @ flomulgator :

    3450lbs, now that is ugly.

  • avatar

    I think it looks great!

yeah I can see that happening, if they wanted a bean-counter “old school” antenna they could’ve put a power antenna to prevent vandalism. Actually, no scratch that.
