The team behind the Eliica is currently seeking corporate sponsorship so they can build this car at an estimated price tag of $225k. That buys you a 0-60 mph time of four seconds, and a 0-100 mph of seven seconds flat. Oh yeah, and eight wheels. Because six wheels is weak sauce and 10 wheels is just plain ostentatious. Well, its nice and all, but I’m really looking for something with 9 wheels.

What’s the fascination with even numbers anyway?

Wow, just clicked the link… This thing is like the Anti-Prius. 8 wheels (with all that rolling resistance) with a 5300lb curb weight! No mention of range is given, but I’m guessing about 300ft.

Saw the video previously and from what I can understand, the reason for 8 wheels is so they can get all that power onto the ground. Lots of power.

The wheels also obviously help hold up all those batteries, too! I think the real range is pretty good…. for an electric car, that is. (Damning it with faint praise).

When you have motors that live in the wheels, more wheels means more motors.

God bless those small wheels. Had GM done it, it would have 25″ wheels with motors twice the size, and the greatest unsprung wieght in auto history.

Frankly, they had me at just the fender skirts.

Yeah, but they didn’t have to make the back end look like a hearse.

I suppose you could outrun any funeral procession with this one.

It’s what would happen if the people who designed the Citroen DS were constantly on LSD!

The problem is that its right-side drive, when it needs to be on the left in order for us Americans to snap it up.

As opposed to only most of the time?

What a hideous monstrosity. They have got to be on something if they think anybody with sufficient funds would be stupid enough to invest in that thing. Hmmm, have they tried Rick Wagoneer?

Building a fast EV is not a great feat. EVs produce torque that Herr Diesel would be proud of. The real feat of engineering would be building an EV that can go FAR, and refuel recharge in a few minutes.

EV drag racers? meh. Wake me up when one can drive 1000 miles in a day.

If they want to make a supersize EV just get an old class 8 tractor and strip out the drive train.

It won’t look cool in a giant GM EV1 Hearse Wagon sort of way, but it will be one heck of a lot cheaper and easier to work on.

    I love it!

This is what “Cars Of The Future” are supposed to look like.

The Eliica would fit right in on the set of UFO…

My only concern is what kind of woman would the Eliica attract?…:-D…

With six wheels of equal sizes the handling wouldn’t be balanced, as one end would have more grip than the other. Unless, of course, one axle was in the center of the car…

This car of the future looks a lot like ’50’s Citroen DS 21 (but with extra 4 wheels).
As far as manufacturing it should be easy: open garage in Detroit and ask Fed for cash. Works for everyone else. Or, put a “Bank” shingle on the garage for better effect.

The credit crunch from the financial crisis has resulted in 100% of potential Eliica purchasers being unable to finance the car.

There are a number of people (children, mental hospital patients, homeless people willing to accept it as a place to sleep) that are very interested in purchasing the Eliica, but because of the financial crisis they cannot obtain credit that they need.

This is exactly what I expect from Japan. Everyone worships at the altar of Japanese practicality, but I absolutely love their willingness to turn Manga-type fantasies into actual working one-offs.

They get extra bonus points for channeling both the DS-19 and Lady Penelope’s Roller.

Seriously though, I see something of Paul Jaray aerodynamics at the rear.

It looks a lot like a Citroen DS, to me.

Other pictures I’ve found of it, indicate the build quality is also quite good. I wonder if they based this car on an existing platform.

    Good call!

The point is, after 40+ years, why are we NOT driving cars that resemble something from a Gerry Anderson Super-Marionation series.

Other than fuel injection, emissions controls, and a nicer interior, why is a 2009 Ford F-150 essentially the same vehicle as a 1969 Ford F-100?

The future isn’t what it used to be….

It certainly would look right at home in a Gerry and Sylvia Anderson production…

    Nothing’s wrong with that picture.

With everyone else wimping out, stylewise, I need something to aspire to once the Aztek wears out.
