Any how a good RWD coupe I wanna see in used car heaven. I just saw one the other day, It looked a little cheap. Like its front was made of plastic. Again at least its RWD, probably comfy, powerful, and affordable.
If I was filthy rich, I’d have bid $351,000.

You could rephrase this like the recent QOTD, “Given $55K, what would you buy?”
In this case, it’s “Given $350K, what would you buy?”

Depends. If they are available this summer as scheduled, then no. If GM sinks further and has to cancel the launch (admittedly not likely), then it would be worth it to place into your hermetically sealed garage so you can re-auction it 20-30 years from now. Actually, if it never makes it to production, I’m sure there’s a hardcore Camaro guy out there with way more money than brains (or hair) that would pay well north of $350k for the exclusivity of having a preproduction model. If GM didn’t get the bailout and had to seriously stare bankruptcy in the face and shut down production lines, then this would be a much more interesting investment.

Oh wow. I thought it said 50K and I recoiled. 350k???? Unless it has an engine block made of a solid diamond.
Good God people, do you actually know anything about these auctions? For first run cars like this, anything over the MSRP goes directly to charity. The man that bought it KNEW it wasn’t worth $350k, but he bought it because he wanted to do a good thing for charity and get a car in exchange for it.
So should the real question be, “Is this car worth a $350k tax break?”
If it has $312,000 worth of diamonds sitting in the glovebox, yes.
Actually, it’s a great deal for a collector. Remember, some of the folks bidding at Barrett-Jackson like Rick Hendricks and Dave Ressler own Chevy stores and they can use cars like this as display cars in their stores. They also have large car collections. For a collector to be able to buy a 001 VIN at MSRP and equip it exactly the way they want to is an incredible opportunity. These guys have already budgeted their charitable contributions so the extra $300K or so going to the American Heart Association isn’t hurting the buyer. Then, as a top ten seller this year, the value of the car as a collectible takes a bump.
The 1st new Camaro may never be worth $350K, but properly maintained in low mileage condition it should hold at least MSRP value and then start to appreciate slowly. Since the rest of the $350K is tax deductible, it’s a pretty good investment.
These BJ auctions definitely are a BJ to the value of automobiles…

a Corvette ZR-1, Lexus LS460L, Mercedes SLK55 AMG, and Land Rover Supercharged (just to piss off the greenies).
The answer is no.
Hell just give me a Ferrari F430 Scuderia and a G8 GXP.

Chances are that whoever paid for the right to get the first ’10 Camaro already has a ZR1 on order.

The extra money went to charity – wasn’t that the whole point? This is like going to a senior center charity date auction and cynically asking, “Is dinner with this 75 year old woman REALLY WORTH $80?”
