“The owners may be mostly German, but the factory is in England, ja?”
I was just kidding…
It can be pretty tricky to determine the nationality of a car maker sometimes though. Just think about Bugatti for example. It was founded by an Italian in Germany. After WWI, that part of Germany was annexed by France. Later, Bugatti, went bankrupt and Volkswagen bought the badge and then basically created an all new company with all German resources and engineering. So what is it?
My rule of thumb for these things is the location of a company’s headquarters, because in todays world, companies have production plants all over the world, not to mention all the suppliers and the owners are also scattered around the globe.
So, Bugatti’s headquarters are in France (even if they’re nothing more than a proxy, quickly built by VW), so they’re French in my book.
Now the question is, does Mini have their own headquarters? AFAIK, Minis are built in Oxford, but they don’t have independent headquarters and are ruled directly by Munich. But since my headquarters rule is merely a rule of thumb, I’d grant the British this company. But as you can see, it’s not an easy subject.
What’s wrong is that the “Actual Size” sticker was an old gag from when the new MINI came out in 2002. On the current-gen MINI, it’s now corny. And the painted-over tag is odd, too.
The tag isn’t painted over — it’s been obscured with a photo editing program to shield the identity of the owner. It’s common (and correct) to hide the tag numbers when posting a photo of a car.
I’ve spent too much time on car sites, looking at cars for sale, to not be aware of the photoshop blurring/blocking out of tags for car photos, but THIS ONE looks like paint. Unless someone let their cursor linger too long and dripped virtual paint near the bottom of the tag…
It’s a British made car in the United States. As we all know, the British don’t make cars anymore…..
“As we all know, the British don’t make cars anymore…”
That’s why it’s a German car :P
The “actual size” wording in the back window is pretty funny.

alec issigonis would have something to say about the ‘actual size’

It appears to me to be wider than my JCW cooper S…
Duh…. The license plate has been primered over. Also appears to be listing a bit to the right. Perhaps it belongs to Hannity.

It needs to be washed, for sure. I’m not sure who Ron Larson is. Did you perhaps mean Far Side creator Gary Larson?
With that dirty backside maybe it is a MINI-D not a MINI-S?
I SO want a MINI-D but the CARB-Cabal won’t let me have it. Remember when this was a free country?

It’s actual size, but it seems much bigger to me.
Warning: Mini in mirror may be larger than it appears.
@Evan
Nice They Might Be Giants reference!
So his actual size is “MINI”? Nice to see someone who’s not insecure about his manhood.

Are the rear tires different widths?
