For me to steal! Check out this putative 2011 Hyundai Sonata! It’s not ginormous! And its Californian curves raise my expectations, even though they (the curves)’re camo-clad! But does it hasten the day when we’ll resort to coining the term “Camccordnata”?

“But does it hasten the day when we’ll resort to coining the term “Camccordata”?”

    Ummm, no.

Perhaps the best indicator that Hyundai has made it is that it has a car good enough that it risks screwing up the redesign.

    Hey, Hyundai–

The 1990s and Chrysler called. They want their LH car back.

I hope it turns out pretty. The local Thrifty lot is starting to look a bit drab.

Looks like the designers watched Disney’s “Cars” just before they hit the drawing board.

It looks a lot like the craptabularly fugly style of the current Camry. Not nice.

Were did you leave the Altima?

    BDB:

Hyundai claims that it is a fair trade since Chrysler has taken Hyundai’s 1990s quality.

How is it that a company that has been in existence for 100 years can’t tie its own shoelaces while a relative newcomer hits homeruns after loading the bases? Consistantly, lately.

Regarding that roof arch and side body character line running from the front wheel cutout through the rear fender, makes me think that Mercedes should consider a lawsuit.

Nice profile, if very derivative of MB. Bland-ugly face, ugly pokemon eyes. Too bad, because Hyundais have mostly had better-than-average looks this decade.

I think yawning summarizes my feelings for this car. Just another cookie cutter car wrapped in camo in an effort to entice interest. Can’t say it’s working.

pfft, ugly…looks like it’s covered in vinyl

I think it looks pretty good with the camo off.

Hope they don’t shrink the interior. It’s just about right-sized for my taste right now.

I’d go for a hybrid to replace my Prius.

We’ll keep our ’09 Sonata (which is good for towing, unlike hybrids).

I’ve heard the Sonata hybrid is going to have a new Hyundai engineered 6-ratio automatic, powerful electric motor-generator between the engine and transaxle and a very powerful new tech battery with Hyundai exclusive technology (I think engineered with LG?). I’ve heard that some 80% of the capacity of the battery will be available for use rather than about 30% on current Ni-Cad batteries (i.e. virtually all gas-electric hybrids now on the road).

I keep hoping that they’ll take that Genesis platform and make a 3-series sized rear driver to complement the coupe…[sigh]…

Hopefully they can learn to manufacture catalytic converters that can last more than 70k miles.

Or maybe Hyundai should consider suing Mercedes. Tiburons, Santa Fes and Sonatas have been wearing curved fender creases for years… long before Mercedes ever slapped them on a minivan.
