I think this is AWESOME. If I were to stay at my tiny apartment in the middle of the city, THIS is what I’d drive. In black though, with blacked-out rims. Just AWESOME.
Looks good. If I lived in a cramped European city I would put it on my list of cars to consider. I was in Rome recently and there were tiny cars like the Smart everywhere. This Scion would fit in great there. And again, it looks good.
Well you all saw the crash tests. This will probably destroy the Smart’s class. Unfortunately for Toyota, it isn’t a very popular class in the US where people drive long distances and park in parking lots. These cars only make sense for people who live or work in cities, and have trouble finding a place to park. They don’t give you any significant mileage improvement over a sub-compact like the Fit, and the size penalty you have to take is huge.
I mentioned to the Mrs. that if we got two of them, we would then have a 3 car garage, or a 2 car garage with extra space. The kids are still too young to fit up front, though.
Not short enough! At least in the US, these things don’t make much sense until they’re shrunk to the point where you can perpendicular park them like a motorbike; two to a regular parking slot.
Paint it black. Put black wheels on it. Make windows dark as possible. Lower to 1-2 inches off ground. Jam 20″ subwoof in back.
Voila; A Scion Smart with ‘Tude
This has been on sale in Europe for some time now, yet I don’t see many of them on the road. They are about 1 ft longer than a Smart, and a lot more expensive for the base model.
The IQ started life ugly and there is no hope of it ever becoming a swan but Five Axis did make it at least presentable enough to remove the Elephant Man bag off it’s head.
It looks cool. Not F50, not 911, not Mustang, not even s2000 cool – but it is better than the original.
I think the Hyabusa might be over kill but the 1100cc used in the Legends and SCCA sports racers would be awesome!
I’ll take mine in silver with a smooth motor, premium camel interior, sound insulation and no stereo so I can plug in the best aftermarket nav system I can find.
“Paint it black. Put black wheels on it. Make windows dark as possible. Lower to 1-2 inches off ground. Jam 20″ subwoof in back.” We need a self-propelled portable stereo.
“the best aftermarket nav system I can find.” Who could stand to drive this thing far enough away from home to need a nav system?
As a Jalopnik commentator mentioned, Scion must have an ugly stick above and beyond any other ugly stick in existence.
I’m calling it, this thing makes the Pontiac Aztek look like a Ferrari F50 in comparison. (Please save the Enzo Ferrari jokes…)
So that’s what it looks like when you rice-up a smart.
That thing would be hilarious with a Hayabusa motor in it.
Is that what the GM Segway thing looks like with optional full body paneling installed?

I’m with ya Dean, I like it. Although, something tells me I won’t be toting my cello around in it. :-)
What’s the range between it and the remote control?
Is that the new circus clown car? How many clowns will fit inside?
This was not done in-house. Toyota only provided the donor iQ, the rest is from Five Axis.
There must be a design talent vacuum in the auto industry. From what I’ve seen this show season, neither beauty nor style is a requisite.
Where does the wind-up key go?

excellent. i love it.
Lemon yellow is appropriate. It leaves a bitter taste and hurts my eyes.
My dog barfs up better looking stuff.
I’m with Bansho. Hayabusa motor indeed. It’s all about power to weight, just ask Lotus.
Praxis,
Someone running the Scion show must have seen this and tried to stop Five Axis from unleashing that eyesore upon the world. Ugh.
Awesome Hot Wheel, do they have them at Zellers yet?
Barf.
This car should stay a Toyota.

Has it been house-trained? Gone to obedience school?-
Overall, it’s ugly…however…

From the side it’s kind of neat, from the back, its okay. But from the front? It’s hideous.
I think the iQ will be a fantastic city car for the USDM, and a nice second car for grocery-runs.
This body kit, however, looks like someone dropped one from a moderate hight, and it went splat.
An excellent Christmas toy for a child!
