A TTAC source signs in with an interesting question:
I have one on “anonymous background.” Did you know members of the board of bystanders at Chrysler get new cars for life? I’d have thought Cerberus would have gotten rid of that stuff, but no. There is someone I know who was a director who got his new car this year. You think the gov’t is going to change that policy now that we own it? I wonder how many other “traditional” perks that were waaaay too common in Detroit and not the rest of the world are still being given to retired execs and board members?

did they get a new car or a Chrysler?
If it was a Chrysler, that is part of corporate punishment…
I assume they got a new Chrysler product. They’ll be handy as a spare car when the Bentley is in the shop.
These perks should be done away with. Of course, after they’re gone the company will still be bankrupt. They’ll have 10 or 15 (however many directors) more new cars in stock.
I hope these folks are paying their fair share of income taxes on these “presents”. I am sure President Obama and his chief tax enforcer Geithner will look after that.
Hell, Iacocca still gets car(s) for free !!!
Wait! I didn’t know Chrysler was offering lawnmowers with tacky headlight covers as perks.
Considering how much they already get paid and how they need to move cars off the lots, its just more added to the big scheme. I think someone who exploits others has a large degree of misery under the surface. So to each his own.
Just as long as they have to drive them.
Sure. The groundskeeper/maid/nanny has to drive something.
Great, so you were given a new 300. Ok, sell it put the money towards some new rims for the Maserati. I don’t see the problem.
I’d take an SRT8 over 100% of the garbage Honda and Toyota come up with.
Most of you talking crap about Chrysler never owned one.
Flashpoint: My dad owns a 1998 Dodge Caravan which I drive all the time. I like it, it is an excellent car.
And it serves as a reminder of how far Chrysler has fallen in the following decade.

Many of us have suffered their rentals…

If you value tire-burning and attitude, sure. I rely on my car and require value.

I’ve test-driven a few. I’ve rented them. Colleagues have them. They talk about them. Often. That’s why I don’t own one.
TEST DRIVES and RENTALS do not equal OWNERSHIP.
Let me be CLEAR about this. I own a Chrysler 300 and a Mercedes Benz S550. My girlfriend owns a Honda Accord 2009 (fully loaded).
Despite the rave reviews of the Accord, as far as I’m concerned, the aestetics feel cheaper than my Chrysler and the navigation system is terrible to use compared to my Chrysler.
Last time I rented a car I got a Nissan Armada. I loved it cause it was large and fast, but it had so many stupid design techniques like buttons without backlights for traveling at night.
Someone is honestly arguing with me because they rented a MINIVAN and they are comparing all Chrysler products to a poor experience?
WTF?
I LOVE MY CHRYSLER.
The only thing that bothers me about it is that despite its fun aspects – the company’s future is unclear and in jeopardy. AS FOR THE CAR… I haven’t had a dsingle problem since September 2007 that wasn’t caused by me.
note: I installed a lot of stuff – myself – and a couple of electric problems occured because of MY OWN ERROR. Other than that, its been perfect.
I’ll say it again.. I’d take a Chrysler or Dodge over most of the other crap out there.
TEST DRIVES and RENTALS do not equal OWNERSHIP.
Well, if you’re limited the opinions to that of (diminishing) current owners, ie people who would buy and keep them, then it’s not much of a survey, is it?
TEST DRIVES and RENTALS do not equal OWNERSHIP.
OK, so I guess if we take this to its logical conclusion –
-I can’t dislike a meal unless I own the restaurant where it was made
-It’s not possible to judge a song that I hear on the radio unless I own a copy of it
-I’m not allowed to give a hotel a bad rating, unless I buy the property
-For that matter, I won’t be able to feel the pain from a hot stove, unless I take title to it.
You are starting to see that there are a few basic logical issues with your position, right?
flashpoint,
I guess if I needed a car that had intimidating looks or screamed “thug,” I’d be more interested in the 300. I don’t, so I look for reliability, durability, handling, performance (up to a point), value and owner satisfaction.
Except for performance, Chrysler doesn’t offer me anything. And I’m not going to spend a lot of money for an 0-60 time that I don’t need.
And I don’t have to own one to know what’s going on with Chrysler reliability and value.
If my neighbors point to a steaming pile and tell me it’s dog poo, I don’t buy a chunk to verify this for myself.
Learning from your own mistakes… that’s intelligence. Learning from others’ mistakes… that’s wisdom.
Speaking of the 300c, I think obama once leased one, with the hemi. Now there’s a source of humor for the conservatives here.
Perhaps we can ask him to write a review of it. He can talk about hoping for better interior plastics, and changing the gun-slit windows for improved visibility.
TO EACH HIS OWN.
My problem is with dumbasses claiming all Chryslers suck based on them RENTING a bullshit minivan or other lesser model.
Truth be told…300’s, Chargers, and even Sebrings are good cars. Maybe they don’t have superior interior design, but they aren’t all bad.
And to PCH101
That argument of yours is stupid and I assume you are purposefully misinterpreting what i said.
If you haven’t owned one and you take your opinions from other people who AREN’T OWNERS…then your opinion is bullshit.
And in my case, not only do I own one now…but I’ve owned before – other models specifically Dodge Intrepid and I have in my family 2 DODGES and 3 Chryslers.
AND YES…OBAMA DID HAVE A 300C.
I wish he’d never got rid of it cause it was a bold American car.
If you haven’t owned one and you take your opinions from other people who AREN’T OWNERS…then your opinion is bullshit.
That is as lousy an argument today as it was yesterday. People don’t need to own things to know that they don’t like or want them.
You must not like car magazines, then, because they don’t own most of the cars that they review, either.
But on the other hand, you must like Consumer Reports. Because they ARE OWNERS — they buy the cars that they review. So they aren’t, er, bullshit…right?
YES Consumer reports are good examples.
How about you tell me the average score on a Chrysler or Dodge on EPINIONS.com/Shopping.com?
Consumer reports I would say are much more fair and balanced.
Its like all of these POOR PEOPLE claiming Mercedes Benz is poor because its reliability ranks under Lexus. And they don’t own one.
I OWN AN S550 4-matic and I haven’t had a SINGLE problem in 2-1/2 years with the exception of not knowing how to perfectly calibrate the massage chair.
Yet, these POOR MORONS claim the LS460 is better.
Its ridiculous.
I also love it when POOR PEOPLE insult Lamborghini’s and Veyrons. Makes me laugh real hard.
