| Dear XXXX,
As you may know, GM is using an expedited, court-supervised process to accelerate the reinvention of our company. At the core of that reinvention is a commitment that we will put the customer first in all that we do — starting with great cars, trucks and crossovers, and the best sales and service experience possible. We want to earn your trust in several ways, including: GM Dealers — They are very much open for business and ready to meet your sales and service needs. And even though we are seeking buyers for our Saturn and Saab brands, have just announced the selection of a buyer for the HUMMER brand, and have decided to eventually phase out Pontiac, those dealerships also remain open and ready for service. The bottom line is service for GM vehicles will always be available through authorized GM retail and service facilities by GM-trained Goodwrench experts, with Genuine GM Parts on hand. GM Vehicles — At this, the most important moment in the history of our company, our dedication to high-quality, fuel-efficient and outstanding-value vehicles has never been greater. Purchase a new GM product, and we stand behind it with a U.S. government-backed,1 comprehensive 100,000-Mile/5-Year Powertrain Limited Warranty.2Combined with Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation Programs, it is the Best Coverage in America. As I said before, our GM dealerships are very much open for business, and banks and credit unions are lending and continue to offer some of the best rates available to qualified buyers. To find information about GM dealerships in your area, please visit GM.com/vehicles/dealer. General Motors — For over 100 years, GM has fueled America’s passion for the automobile. Propelled by the spirit and commitment of our people, we will become the New GM, a company that makes Americans proud, and one that can compete successfully with anyone in the world. All of us at GM are confident that we will emerge a leaner, stronger company for you, offering the most compelling vehicles possible from our Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands. Thank you for your interest in our GM vehicles. As we move forward, I invite you to stay up to date on our promising new future by visiting GMreinvention.com. Sincerely, |

Don’t use the “B” word, call it “reinvention.”
” . . . our dedication to high-quality, fuel-efficient and outstanding-value vehicles has never been greater.”
Because it was non-existent before?
Blah, blah, blah. Put the product on the road and then you’ll have something to crow about. Pay me back my tax money, then talk to me about how dedicated to excellence you are.
About as long as “New Coke”…
“General Motors Classic” coming to a dealership near you! *
*Offer not valid in all states. Excluded “Bad GM” dealerships. List of participating locations available at {PLACEHOLDER}.
As long as new Fritz is old Fritz warmed over, not for long.
Hm… so GM’s warranty is half as long as Hyundai’s, but because it’s “government-backed” it’s the Best Coverage in America(TM)? And what about those “ready for service” Saabs? Weren’t they kicked off the 5-year plan? Who’s backing them?
Don’t know but it seems Chrysler has been claiming to be new since their first bailout in 1979.
When are all the gm websites going to end in .gov?
It shouldn’t still be called General Motors! ‘General’ sounds like generic and leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the upcoming generation of buyers. It should be called USM for US motors or something.
Well, I guess they can call themselves “new” as long as that catch phrase helps distance the company from their recent difficulties. Actually a very good marketing plan.
You left off the fine print:
“1) Government-backed warranty for GM vehicles purchased from March 30 – July 31, 2009.
2) Whichever comes first. See dealer for limited warranty details. Excludes Saab. “
…”and we stand behind it with a U.S. government-backed,1 comprehensive 100,000-Mile/5-Year Powertrain Limited Warranty.2Combined with Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation Programs.”
Again, how is Ford, or any competitor, supposed to compete against this?
Not only is it paid for by the government…they advertise it and that has to make it sound more powerful than a simple warranty.
Man, I just don’t get it anymore.
It’s simple really, all they need to do is cut the happy horse$hit, stop the banter and just do what they claim they are going to do. If they are successful, and that’s a big if, then they can start calling themselves the “new” GM.
and we stand behind it with a U.S. government-backed, comprehensive 100,000-Mile/5-Year Powertrain Limited Warranty. Combined with Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation Programs, it is the Best Coverage in America.
So if your Aveo conks out while fording the Snake River, the Army Corps of Engineers will give you a tow?
“How Long Can ‘New GM’ Claim to Be ‘New?’”
Until they file Chapter 7.
@Dr. Beets
Or .org, because it’s a non-profit corporation.
Zombie’s walk around losing chunks of flesh until they can’t walk anymore, then they collapse and decay.
Ch. 11 is taking off 2 arms and maybe 1/2 a leg if sales drop for GM from current levels…
The collapse and decay will start shortly.
How long can the “new GM” be new?
A simile about picking up a turd by the clean end comes to mind.
ACME motors anyone? Warner-Bros could do all the corporate logos and decorate the dealers…
“For over 100 years, GM has fueled America’s passion for the automobile.”
Well, if that were true, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. They fueled it for maybe 60 years, at best. The first 60.
@lw
Zombies can stay active for ever, as long as there are enough people to take bites of flesh from.
I really can’t make up my mind about if the bloodletting to GM and Chrysler from the US government should continue, and for how long.
Stop giving them cash to restructure, they ‘ll file the next day -> millions of lost jobs, plus the money they have already lended to them will be lost too. Keep giving them money, and they might caught up in an infinite circle of restructuring sucking more and more taxpayer money, and never turn a profit for decades, if ever.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Barrack’s shoes right now..
PS: And I am not happy the talk about the Volt suddenly stopped
