Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Obama Administration’s order of 17,205 “fuel-efficient” vehicles using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
We know that we can create jobs and save taxpayer dollars while protecting our planet, and with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are. The news that General Services Administration is one step closer to buying new, fuel efficient vehicles is good for our economy, good for our workers, and good for our environment. Because this will increase the fuel efficiency of the federal fleet, it’s also good for the American taxpayer.
Ah, but how fuel efficient are they? And what percentage of the new vehicles are American-made (a.k.a. UAW-assembled) cars? As you know, TTAC is determined to pry this information from the federal government. Our surprise ally: Speaker Pelosi’s office. They’ve promised to identify the models for us on Monday. We shall see . . .

We know that we can create jobs and save taxpayer dollars while protecting our planet, and with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are.
Can anyone read this, and not cringe at the vacuousness? Does this lady believe her words, or has cynicism just reached a new low?
We know that we can create jobs and save taxpayer dollars while protecting our planet, and with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are.
She needs a new propaganda writer. The truth, justice, and the american way, government to the rescue propoaganda is so saccharin sweet, it makes me want to throw up.
Or, to put it politely, she is overplaying her hand and tooting her own horn a bit too much.
I requested some direction in an earlier post as to what we can do as TTAC participators.
I found this web sight I am hoping everybody saves as a favorite.
From now on, each time any of us feel like raving at other than each other, use this to find YOUR representative’s contact.
Send THAT person your opinion.
Hope this helps us all direct our frustrations more precisely.
Hopefully RF will make it an easy to find link on TTAC.

I predict we will find out that the new vehicles mileage do not substantially improve upon their predecessor’s. Nancy Pelosi will then hold a public press conference promising to hold accountable those who betrayed the American public’s trust.
A short while later, meeting minutes will surface showing that Nancy Pelosi was personally briefed on all vehicles being purchased by the Federal Government. Nancy will at first deny being briefed but then finally admit that while she was in the meeting, the vehicles were only planned to be purchased and no actual purchasing had yet taken place.
In one last press briefing, Nancy will lose her train of thought, and finally remember that she was lied to in the original meeting and this clearly exonerates her from any culpability. The meeting minutes clearly show her innocence, but unfortunately the minutes also discuss GM’s Volt business strategy and can not be released to the public.

Yes, I’m sure she’ll do that, considering this is what was actually promised:
“Each new vehicle will have a higher miles-per-gallon (MPG) rating than the one it replaces.”

Want to bet that they met that meager goal?

I think, although I may be wrong, but the “we shall see…” meant we kind of, sort of, don’t believe her.
Next, this is not a good deed or gracious.
It is a simple matter of public right.
And yes, you are right on.
Wow…what a goal to set, huh?
1 MPG more is getting the job done.
They would be infinitely greener if the exhausts were routed into the passenger compartments and the windows were permanently in the up position. ;-]
The reason they won’t tell us is because they didn’t actually use the money to purchase cars at all. They actually used the money to buy black helicopters. They plan to take our guns and use the the choppers to transport us to concentration camps.

Oh boy – that’s a knee slapper! Murder “jokes” are so awesome.
Have to love the eliminationist mindset.

Shhh! Loose lips sink ships! Ixnay!
@ long126mike
What doesn’t make sense to me, is that you and Carlos seem to be exceedingly distrustful of the previous administration; that of the so-called “imperial presidency”; and yet now that it has passed power peacefully to the duly elected successor you seem to think that a government made of many of the same bureaucrats is entirely benign.
When I first saw this post I thought that Pelosi was going to be naming some of the new Government Motors products.
You know, like the 2012 Pelosi GTxi SS/RT Sport Edition.

That’s a suicide joke, private.
“We know that we can create jobs and save taxpayer dollars while protecting our planet more deeply entrench government control over, and government ownership of, most major industries in this country, and with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are.”
long126mike@ “Paranoia is treatable, you know.”
So is myopia.
80% of AIG – Government owned
60% of GM – Government owned
Pay Czar in place…
Next up…newspapers, broadcasting, airlines…..
Wow, two whole firms that asked to be taken over during a monumental financial crisis. Only about 25 million more to go.
Yes, Barney and Nancy are on the verge of taking over all the newspapers. They’re coming for you next.
Stock up on those canned foods and duct tape.
trk2 :
Pure comedy gold – thanks.
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Obama Administration’s…”
Though a true statement, this statement will attract wingnuts like ants to sugar, resulting in a ‘lively’ political discussion that seems to be the norm here lately.
Maybe some fuel will be saved and maybe a few domestic jobs will be saved as well, which is the point, eh?
Edit: Oh, and the photo is helpful, too.
Edit edit: And I like cars as well. ;-)
long126mike@ “Wow, two whole firms that asked to be taken over during a monumental financial crisis.”
I named the 2 largest in their respective industries, both now majority owned by the government through the machinations of the Oval Office. The government now has shares in roughly 500 private firms. They gotta start somewhere. Like the socialism we’re rapidly heading for, it takes root one insidious step at a time.
“Asked?” Asked to be taken over? How about appealed to the government for assistance during a financial meltdown and instead had their CEO personally fired by the Community Organizer in Chief (for whom the CEO did not work), their guaranteed bondholders rights trampled, their future product design dictated by the Oval Office whether the public wants that type of vehicle or not, their executive compensation capped by a Government Paymaster (Land of the Free no more) and their new company leader is a guy who admittedly knows nothing about cars. They “asked” for all that? I don’t think so.
And that’s why I’m a Porsche/Corvette/Nissan/Ferrari guy.
I’d just like to see the government’s fleet get the 35mpg that they just imposed on the rest of us. I’d like to see all 535 of those jerks have to obey the same laws that WE do. And live on the mean average income of Americans. With no extra perks. That’s all. That might give them some incentives to do some good for the average Joe, instead of lining their own pockets.
