But to be rather technical, you can’t be “Absent Without Leave” since you have neither an enforceable obligation to write a column, nor a higher authority from which permission to be absent must be obtained. So really, you’re not AWOL. (Nor, one should note regarding that picture, was GWB during his military service, despite the much-loved and widely-circulated myth among those with BDS.)
