Well, we called it . . . new incentive sheets this morning, and already they are being corrected because GM’s own website verification software is wrong.
Check out this email from GM to dealers . . .
“Please be advised that the new Employee Bonus Cash was NOT intended to be compatible with the outboarded APR’s. We are now in the process of getting this corrected to make it not compatible with outboarded APR. Please advise that currently VIN Lookup shows that the two are compatible, however they are in fact not. A formal communication is forthcoming, but wanted to pass this along as I’ve already had a few inquiries.”
Imagine you called a customer when the sheets came out; by the time they arrived at the store, you had to explain that the deal wasn’t available.

BAIT AND SWITCH, BAIT AND SWITCH!!! DEALERSHIPS ARE ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING TO CON PEOPLE!!!
I can hear it now. And it makes me insane.
Can’t get out of their own way…

This isn’t a dealership problem per se, but what difference will that make to a potential customer? This is something GM really has to sort or in a hurry because it really is just reinforcing the dealer stereotype.
The ad I see next to this article on the front page is for a local Chevrolet dealership. It reads, “Low, straightforward pricing on remaining ’08 and ’09 model Chevys.”
Just plain humorous.
the current “summary sheets” are 18 pages of codes that will confuse the hell out of anyone.

Mix 4 price increases with half-baked rebates, hold against competitive flame until burned, then chill with recall.

I know. That was actually my point. Tongue in cheek, you know?
Just like Congress…
My first new car was a 71 Nova like that. Only without the skull and hood ornament. Great Car, had it 12 years and the kid I sold it to was thrilled to get it.

Great site. Where has this been all my life?
@ commando1
been on search and destroy mission geared toward one RED INK RICK and his BOARD of BYSTANDERS.
now sights are set directly on one absolutely useless Mark LaNaive.
Today I went to pontiac.com and looked at the interior photos. The website shows side by side “competitive” photos of a G8 and a BMW 5 series…
I about fell outa my chair…
Would ANYONE who is looking at a Pontiac even consider a BMW or vice versa?
Is someone at GM channeling Emily Litella?

I never saw that before, but looking at the pics and considering the price point of each vehicle, the G8 doesn’t embarass itself. It’s a damn nice car. That Bob Klutz and the rest of the morons at GM can’t find a place in their lineup for this car to live on is unbelieveable.
God, I love Novas. My father has a ’71 model (his first car), and I had a ’74 Hatchback for two years. The ’73-’74 cars were almost as underrated as the ’75-’79 cars, and I always found them to be the most visually appealing.
I took my driver’s test in my grandpap’s ’71 Nova, identical to the one shown. Well, nearly; I’m not sure the state cop would have passed me with the ‘skull-and-bones’ decal.
After the road test, he asked me “Which hand do you hold your Pepsi in when you drive?”
I dutifully answered: “Neither, Sir! You should keep both hands on the steering wheel.”
“OK… you passed”
If he could only have foreseen my future antics – he would have arrested me on the spot…
Oh, and the rebate situation, dealer cull scenario, etc. will have many potential GM buyers hanging back until it’s all sorted out – which will not bode well for a company on life support.

95% equivalent of a 5-series at under half the price (after discounts)? Those of us who dream of a 5-series, not because of the badge, but because of the driving dynamics, drool over this prospect. I look forward to buying a used G8 V8 (in either flavor) in 1-2 years. A 2-3 year old car the price of a 5-8+ year old 5 series? Even better for me. I’m not a fan of GM, but an exceptional car regardless of the brand, even a dead one, warrants interest.
Love the irony of the “Deathproof” still…
How many “second chances” does GM think they have left with the average consumer???
I can’t bring myself to consider even a used GM product. I would likely look at the Astra or one of the Holden products badged as Pontiacs. But could I even get parts for them ten years down the road? That’s how long I keep cars. What would it be worth if I couldn’t get parts easily or at a reasonable price? Sort of like buying a Puegeot?
No wait – at least I could still import the Frech parts from somewhere. With the GM imports the products may be dead as of this year or next and I can’t rely on the aftermarket.
