Why is Chrysler’s new board chock full of former airline men and the governmentally well-connected? Because auto firm experience isn’t necessary for these things. Just ask Chrysler’s former owners Cerberus. Or, for another perspective, ask United Airlines employees about their experience with employee ownership. Meanwhile, the Aveo still sucks and the SL65 Black Series is still bat-shit loco. Plus, we’re working on getting our sales data in a more universal format.

IMHO, this is the biggest problem with American-style capitalism/what they teach @ MBA schools: industries/companies are like widgets and all you need is generic, high-level, strategic management experience. If you’re an industrial company, there should be an engineer (eg Mullaly @ Ford).

And kudos to TTAC for mind-reading this week’s Top Gear show. How will TTAC like the Fiat 500?

A question for the B&B: When do you think the vultures will come home to roost for both Chryco and GM?
Will they last a year? Less? Still too big and will draw this agony out for a couple of more years? Long enough for the economy to turn around and realize they’re so damaged that they’re not following?
    What say you?

Americans don’t understand the simple concept that if cars is what you want to sell, the execs must not only be engineers, they must be damn good engineers.

Hence the sorry state of the “Small 3”. Nothing it going to change and all those billions will be wasted if the culture doesn’t change.

BTW that is also why the Tesla Prototype Company will fail in the end.
