The Telegraph reports:

“The recession has hit our industry hard,” said Thomas Goetz, owner of [Germany’s] Maison d’envie brothel.

“Obviously we hope that the discount will attract more people,” he added. “It’s good for business, it’s good for the environment – and it’s good for the girls.”

Customers who arrive on bicycle or who can prove they took public transportation get a 5-euro ($7) discount from the usual 70-euro ($100) fee for 45 minute sessions, Mr Goetz said. He said the environmentally friendly offer was working a charm.

“We have around 3-5 new customers coming in daily to take advantage of the discount,” he said, adding the green rebate has helped alleviate traffic and parking congestion in the neighbourhood. [hat tip to Justin Berkowitz]

Don’t look for something like this in the US. The government will maintain its monopoly on screwing us.

How bout a discount for riding a scooter with 70 to 100 mpg? That’s better than a Prius!

I suppose one proves he came (make that arrived) on a bike by showing up all hot and sweaty already.

I was going to say that one could prove he arrived on a bike by wearing those ridiculous shorts but someone might have fetishes involving them.

I sincerely hope these clients didnt have to pedal uphill afterwards or else will have tochange it Difficult ending instead of Happy ending. Throw a tow rope behind some cars thats all.

If you arrive on a moped, are you obligated to pick the fat chick at the brothel?

I am in complete agreement that this is a horrible time to enact any new C02 legislation, and in general I see C02 legislation as a way to handicap the developed world in favor of 3rd world polluters.

Global warming is going to hurt China, India and Europe much more than the US, if they don’t like it they should be paying us.

On the other hand, GDP is a completely bullshit number. It does not measure the happyness or health of a country.

Completely destructive timebomb activities like moving property with ARMS and pay-option ARMs contributes to GDP. GDP does not measure whether people are doing anything productive, it just measures the prices being paid.

American’s pay out a lot, so they have a high GDP, but they pay it out for low quality shit, so they are unhappy, unhealthy, and indebted.

That is where the blind obsession with GDP will leave a country, and it is where it has left the US.

According to GDP measurement Rick Waggoner provided 10 of millions of dollars in value this year. That’s what he was paid, so obviously he provided that much value, at least.

This brothel isn’t lobbying for CO2 taxes, it is running a promotion based on, unfortunately, market trends. That is smart business.

It is also smart that Germany, like no place in the US except Nevada, allows the value created by sex to be counted in GDP.

Maybe it is time for sex and, as has been suggested in several states, marijuana, to contribute to the GDP, instead of just credit card and mortgage scams. We would quickly find ourselves out of a recession.

Okay, I get the point about democrats ruining America, world, etc.

But what I don’t understand is how it comes up here and how this story gives the reaction “Largely due to their willingness to destroy their own economy with this sort of stupidity” or about new CO2 legislation.

This is an independent business making an independent business decision? No government regulation involved. Sure, it might be a decision without any impact, but so is the pizza place’s decision to change their logo from blue to red. In this case, I assume they did it for the publicity.

In fact, if anything, I’d assume those with micro-government leanings (low taxes, low services, low regulation, huge military) would be more likely to support the independence of a business that is actually a brothel. After all, the first three things my libertarian acquaintances want to legalize are drugs, prostitution, and drugs.

If you can’t see how these eco-hookers are going to destroy the world, then you’re beyond hope.

The world is ending!!! Apocalypse is here!!! In other words, just lease your next car, because you won’t have to bother returning it — we’re all gonna be dead!!!!

And that’s why I like 911’s. The electric ones, anyway.

Legalize prostitution? 100% AGREED! Why is it that paying for sex can’t be considered a service, much like someone that cuts your lawn, walks your dog, etc.? It’s consentual, and they can make sure the girls are of age and clean.

As far as legalizing pot, I would think it’d be great for tax revenue, would reduce drug related crime, etc., but where do you draw the line? I guess that’s another converstaion for another day though.

I’m hoping that it’s going to be by increasing my C02 (and other) emissions for an hour or so.

    Justin Berkowitz:

I lean left, I’m just disgusted with Democrats that would rather waste their political capital on CO2 legislation than use their fillibuster proof majority to finally enact real national healthcare.

I am still much happier to have a Democrat in office, if only for the Supreme Court nominees.

You basically echoed what I said, I said, at the end:

“This brothel isn’t lobbying for CO2 taxes, it is running a promotion based on, unfortunately, market trends. That is smart business.

This might be counterproductive. I seem to recall that riding a bike puts pressure on a blood vessel supplying a certain organ, and that extensive bike riding can lead to impotence. No sense showing up at the ball game without a bat.

Well that and they say; “It’s like riding a bicycle.”

Everyone’s a critic. The eco-sluts are doing valuable work and have earned our respect.

All I ask is that they not recycle the condoms. That would be a bit unpleasant.
