The front-end and general shape is very late ’90s Chrysler LH car.

Yes, the A-pillar is sloped and long like the cab-forward Chryslers. The interior room was decent on those models. But I would note that the LH cars had “north-south” orientation of the engine unlike most FWD cars which have transverse mounted engines.
And the chrome trim line below the side windows appears to extend to the headlamps.
It looks like you’re going to have to duck quite a bit to get into the back seat.

The a-pillar design looks more BMW 6-Series to me.

Another sedan with a belt line worthy of a retirement home. I don’t know what size those wheels are, but they sure look like 16″ against that body.

Is the hood to be fitted with 16 airbags?

Renderings have been out since 2008, and it looks similar to a cross between a Genesis and a Passat CC/CLS.

Kinda looks like a Toyota… but it’ll be cheaper and have a longer warranty when it’s released.

First Hyundai designer: “Let’s raise the beltline and squash the roof so the windows look like gunslits!”

Second Hyundai designer: “Great idea! Chrysler did that and their cars are selling like hotcakes!”

I like the looks pretty well, but I admit that I didn’t like early 1970’s Chryslers, when you felt as if you were sitting in a gun bunker; I don’t like 2000’s Chryslers with the same bunker windows.

So I suspect that despite kind of liking the style of the renderings, in real life, the VW Passat CC roofline would bug me quite a bit. So it’s just as well that we snagged a 2009 Sonata, which I really like the styling of.

At least Hyundai can be said to be following recent design trends. In terms of going their own way, some people must have absolutely thought they were nuts when the did the Genesis sedan just as gas was horribly expensive in the states.

Thing is, they don’t let major economic upsets turn their plans inside out. They seem smart enough to have concluded (with wisdom) that the auto industry is very cyclical, very much in upheaval, but the slow and steady hand at the helm will guide them through.

    That’s how I see Hyundai.

    ohhh, ahhhh, another Toylet lookalike…

Total ‘Meh’. I agree with the previous comment, seems to resemble a VW Passat CC. In that case I’m confused, is a cheap Korean knock-off of a VW better or worse?

The roofline on the spy shots looks like a cross between a new Mazda6 and a Hyundai Azera.

As for the swollen nose, as with the new Saab, I think we’ll just have to get used to the aesthetic fallout from the European pedestrian-impact standards. Ironic that the fat lip now goes from the pedestrian to the car.

It looks like the hood is riding two inches or so above the fenders almost to the front of the headlights. Big rig styling on a family sedan?

It looks like some sort of car covered under 200 pounds of lumpy vinyl camouflage.
