hopefully the coupe will be good….and america can prove that it can make a coupe that’s not a muscle car or a Corvette though the CTS coupe looks a bit too hatchback-y.
The angular rear pillar does echo the Corrado, except the CTS coupe is probably 50% larger in every dimension and double the weight. And thus half to 1/4 the fun.
Well, 2x the horsepower and 4x as safe as a Corrado as well.

Horsepower is not a desirable attribute. Acceleration and handling is.
More horsepower may help with acceleration, but it’s not guaranteed since the extra weight associated with more horsepower hurts acceleration. There is a point of diminishing return.
As ads go, this one is pretty clever but I ask why? Why is Cadillac producing a “sport wagon” and a coupe, two new body styles (for them anyway) that time and time again have proven to be poor sellers in the N.A. market? The SRX looks like the little pig that stayed home but that is another, subjective styling matter.
With all the problems the “New” GM has (mostly the ones the “Old” GM had), I don’t think producing two new models that, in all likelihood, will be poor selling body styles is particularly prudent.
The CTS coupe looks nice and so does the CTS wagon. They will help to fill out the CTS line but they are just niche cars. Cadillac is relying too heavily on one car model because it doesn’t have anything else.
To compare our mediocre autoindustry with the once great NASA is insulting. Cadillac should just concentrate on building a competitor to the Genesis. Without the Ultra V8 that will be a tough act to follow.
I noticed our local cadillac dealership is shrinking in size. In fact they moved to a smaller building. I guess when you are the CTS company there is not much variety.
Has anyone noticed Cadillac sales are smaller than Saturn’s this year!!
Not bad as ads go. The “mission control room” theme is way overdone in advertising, but it’s easy to understand Cadillac’s desire to associate themselves with an American technology still perceived by the public as world-beating.
And sure the Coupe and wagon are niche products, but, in the case of the Coupe, more likely to draw me (a three-decade driver of European and Japanese vehicles) in for a test drive than the CTS sedan that’s been around forever. I’d really like an A5 (actually an S5 heh) but won’t pay the price. Surely the Caddy will look like a bargain in comparison? Although I’ve not been the biggest fan of the art and science language, I’d say the Coupe is its best expression yet.
Besides, it’s not possible for a car to look “too hatchback-y”. Hell, if they were targeting me this car would have a hatch!
I saw a car carrier full of new SRXs headed for the local Caddy dealer tonight. Overally, it might be an improvement as far as looks go, but I’d much rather have one of the previous gen ones with the V8, especially since lightly used ones can be picked up for under $20K.
The CTS Coupe doesn’t do a whole lot for me, but then again, most coupes don’t (with the Bentley Brooklands being a rare exception, talk about sex on wheels). That sportwagon is a very nice car though. If I could lease one for around $400 a month or less and drive one onto my lot without getting hassled to death, I would seriously consider it.
I don’t think of luxury when I look at the hatchback 2 door. The wagon though I like. I felt I’d be interested in driving that looks more like couple, then a hatch. 335i it is.

Yeah, but it’s not as quiet as the new Taurus.
From the side it looks like a VW Corrado.
They’re all winners, except for the dreadful SRX.

Pretty.
This is my first time seeing and hearing about the Coupe, and I gotta say – first look – I love it. Any price structure on this yet?

nmcheese,

GM is very good at advertising for vehicles that either:
A) Won’t be available for purchase until 1+ year after the ad. (Camaro, Volt, Spark, CTS Coupe)
or
B) Will never be available for purchase (Sixteen, EV-1, Plug-in Vue, G8 ST, G8 3.6L DI)
AMX reincarnated.
Fantastic.

The commercial is pretty nice. The coupe looks good, but the rolling shot from 0:52-0:56 gives off a feeling of computer-generated enhancement.

Dupe.

Caddy needs to take a hint from Ford and BMW and give the 3.6 DI the twin-turbo treatment. The car would be perfect with another 50 hp.

Looks like a bloated G6 Coupe on the outside.

Still laughing.
Done to death or not, the “staging” effect is pretty cool. I saw an SRX Crossover a few days ago. Not for me.

Here’s an even cooler Cadillac commercial…
No Kate Walsh???
Then I’m not interested.
