Eagle-eyed, infinitely patient TTAC editor Jeff Puthuff spotted this story in the LA Times: “Less than two years ago, [porn star Savannah] Stern earned close to $150,000 annually, sometimes turned down work and drove a Mercedes-Benz CLK 350. Now she’s aggressively reaching out for jobs and making closer to $50,000 a year. As for that Mercedes? She’s replacing it with a used Chevy Trailblazer — from her parents. ‘The opportunities in this industry really are disappearing,’ Stern said. ‘It’s extremely stressful.'” Hey! I know a really good way to relieve stress! Anyway, it seems the Internet is doing to Silicone—I mean San Fernando Valley’s porn industry what Silicon Valley did to Armonk, New York’s computer industry. And you’ve got to give Ms. Stern credit for tightening her belt. So to speak. If only the feds could appreciate the benefits of austerity. * cough Gulstream jets cough *

The feds? You mean Wall Street, right?

Anyways, the car industry could learn from the porn industry. Those behind the curve are doomed. The Detroit firms are film and magazines. Toyota is video. The Germans are soft-core. Who will be the internet? Can we look forward to Dirk Diggler-edition Buicks? I could go on.

She should get in to Ashley Alexander Dupree’s line of work. It seems to be more profitable and more recession proof. Of course, your johns getting outed can be a problem, eh Mr Spitzer?

Her parents must be so proud.

For Southern California, $150,000 a year is not all that much money, and certainly not a lot for the “work” that she was doing.

Larry Flint has been asking for a porn bailout (to mock the real bailouts):

    http://www.tmz.com/2009/01/07/porn-kings-help-us-through-hard-times/

Savannah does have quite a body of work:

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1965553/

It seems the internet is doing quite a bit of damage to the industry, like “professional” women throughout history, Savannah has to compete with those who “just give it away for free.”

Is porn too big to fail? How about a cash for clunkers deal for porn? Trade in your video tapes and glossy mags for internet web cam subscriptions and The Messiah picks up the tab. Then the web sites can charge ridiculous amounts of money because someone else is paying for it. Soon new sites will spring up to get on the boondoggle.

If this mirrors the coming health care fiasco a bit it’s because it does.

I wonder how prostitutes are doing right now. Seriously. I’ve always been of the opinion that prostitutes should be legal, and regulated by state governments. Maybe porn actors/actresses (okay, calling someone that lies on their back screaming “oh, oh, do me” an actor is a stretch) could move to Nevada and start a new, yet very similar, career. The smart ones moved to the internet several years ago.

I will congratulate her on getting the TrailBlazer though. That is one good, solid truck with a great engine. The Fisher-Price interior is easy to get over when taking the truck’s attributes into consideration. Just another example of a good vehicle that GM could have made great, but instead just let it wither away.

GM and porn stars have a lot in common:

they screw their fanbase out of their money.
the parts on their products are of suspect quality.
    and
the German and Japanese offerings are of a higher standard.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week!

Trailblazers is no car for a pornstar, it is the vehicle for cheap prostitutes. Savanah deserves her Merc. The problem is with each year there is a wave of white trash shaved teenagers that will squirt for less cash.

The porn industry now operates the lowest common denominator. Whatever happened to curvy women with glistening hairy cu..ts? I am telling you, the worst tragedy of this recession is the lowering of porn quality. Now we have to turn to foreign products (italy, france) to get decent content. Perhaps some TARP money should have gone to incentivize the local product.

  • avatar

And this is the reason why prostitution must NEVER BE LEGALIZED.

If struggling women ever got the idea that selling sex was safe, profitable and could get them the things they wanted, every decent girl out there would turn into a whore with an OLD BENZ.

CLK’S SUCK….call me when you get an S550.

    re: tauronmaikar:

You are right, the Trailblazer is no car for a pornstar, for a woman whose first movie, per IMDB, was “S.O.S.: Stretched Out Snatch 2” nothing will do except for a Subaru B9 Tribeca:

    https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/subaru-b9-tribeca/

    re: superbadd75:

According to the L.A. Times article Savannah’s rate is down to $700 a scene, just grab a camera and you are a producer/actor, not a John.

    re: KatiePuckrik:

With both their cars and their porn Germans pay a lot of money just to be shit on.

@superbadd75: Nevada wasn’t looking so hot last year for legal prostitution thanks to the combination of high diesel prices and having to drive 1hr from Las Vegas to get to the brothels. I wonder how they’re doing this year with the economic downturn and cheaper diesel.

    loverofcars1969 :

Actually it sucks, it blows, it swallows and its .. all over her.

    Now that that is over..

I think its funny as hell, that this minx dumped her SLK350 for a used T/B. I think its absolutely hysterical.

    Id just like to know..
How much of her money did she actually save.

Probably blew it.. on hookers (her best friends) and beer.

    P.S
There is actually a GM come back from bankruptcy ZING in there somewhere.

Heh, I guess that depends where you live. In Detroit, they were wiped out not by the economic storm, but by King Kwame, our former mayor. You’d think Detroit would be full of them, but not anymore. Porn and hookers aren’t the same thing though.

I love the theoretical idea of being a male porn star but getting your new BFF for life, Mr. Herpes, ain’t worth $150,000 a year (and dudes don’t make anything close to the women).

…but now they’ve got new shit coming out…

    HPV Human PAPILLOMA virus…

apparently you can get cervix cancer by contracting HPV from taking too many “creampies”.

I’m surprised there still is a market for porn. Used to be you’d have to go to a movie theater.. then VHS/Beta, then DVD’s and now online. The distribution was what was so expensive, and now with home made stuff or free online access, the money trail appears to have dried up (oh yeah, pun intended)

    And that’s why I love Porsche 968’s.

@Flashpoint: HPV -> cervical/anal/vulvar/penile cancer is not news, but the association with throat cancer is newer.

Now to worry, there are vaccines for women.

Since we are going way off topic from cars here … why not.

Someone explain this to me: A third party movie producer pays two people to have sex with each other on camera, and that is legal. But when one person pays another person to have sex with them it is illegal prostitution. How does that make any sense?

  • avatar

How about a cash for clunkers deal for porn?

I thought you meant for the performers!

John Horner: The same way marijuana prohibition “works.” The uptight get to believe that outlawing (potentially) victimless crimes makes a difference, thus never suspecting that that half of their otherwise-normal neighbors are taking full advantage of medical laws.

And that is why the first-generation Impreza is the best Subaru ever.

  • avatar
    tauronmaikar

John and Edward: Good points indeed. I am just going to pay myself and a hooker to have sex and film it with my phone camera so I can have it for posterity to maximize the investment.

The solution is, of course, obvious. Hire a prostitute and film it.

The actual answer is that it doesn’t. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the sex trade just as there’s nothing inherently wrong with drugs or guns. It’s the use (or misuse) that causes problems.

The root cause is what poverty can make women (and men) do as part of the sex trade. Or the drug trade. Or via gun violence. The core problem is poverty, but there’s no money in addressing poverty.

ETA: I seems I was scooped. Twice.

You’re a sucker if you pay for porn.

Actually, if you pay for porn on the internet you’re supporting a number of people I know. Unfortunately, they’re all network, IT security or app-development people.

It’s rather like paying for music actually, except the screwing is a little less overt in pornography.

ajla: that was Savannah [no last name]. Blonde. And “True Hollywood Story” feature.

@ John Horner: because Hollywood long ago established the legality of putting hookers in front of cameras and calling them movie stars. It’s show business.

I wonder how prostitutes are doing right now.
I don’t know about the USA, but my Canadian sources say they’re hurting (in Canada, non-streetwalker prostitution is decriminalized). The boom times are over – the newbie young competition is hungrier, the customers are more frugal, and many of their US clients are having problems with the new border regs.

+1 to psarhjinian regarding today’s porn and IT employment. Programmers and digital cameramen can make a good living in the biz.
