What’s wrong with this picture? Other than GM being owned by the government and union? And other than huge less-practical SUVs now known as “crossover vehicles” still being popular with people who drive solo, instead of using cars (even luxury cars) – which are far more efficient?
I can’t see anything other than those things wrong… (deep sarcasm)
It constantly amazes me to see all of these captains of industry clinging so tightly and ignorantly to their sinking ship.
They don’t recognize that it is 10x harder to gain market share rather than maintain what they once had.
BMW, MercBenz, Audi, they have the market share, they have been in business for a long time…they consistently make quality vehicles. I haven’t test driven the SRX, but is it really as good as they claim it to be?
Wow, did you see the look in the Cadillac executive’s eyes! Fools gold is still very addictive. Hard to beleive that they are still chasing after something that really is not there any more. I can understand if they want to have this segment as a small part of their portfolio but to bank so much of it is to me a mystery.
They seem to be marketing SUVS / CUVS to the same people.. for much the same uses. Even taking up the same spots previously held by SUVS.
Like the GMC Envoy and its TB brothers.. being replaced by the Equinox / Vue copies i.e Terrain.
All the while.. producing vehicles that are larger than the last ones.. to the point where they really dont have a compact size.
Witness what is going on with the Cobalier v Cruze.
Cruze is going to be a good 1/4 size larger than Cobalt… with nothing underneath, keep in mind the AVEO.. isnt a car.
Its a distraction.
P.S
I find it hysterical that they go to such great lengths to say how different and how changed they are.. with the Slade in the background, the Avalanche badges underneath..
The issues with the DTS / STS, and the CTS as its only dimly lit shining star.
P.S.S
Why is it.. that the CTS is in its 2nd generation, yet the V version is only in its first.
As long as “luxury crossovers” does in fact remain/become a huge/growing market, it does seem like one where Cadillac’s odds are better than elsewhere. The competition is somewhere between less entrenched (Q7) and completely out to lunch (X6), and customers aren’t as spoilt and well served as in more traditional luxury segments.
It was pretty much the same strategy that led the Michiganites to excel in SUV’s (sales wise) a decade or two ago. And even in minivans for a brief moment. With their Michigan political and union mafias firmly tied like a boat anchor around their ankles, they can’t well hope to compete head on with those not so afflicted. So, they’ll do something a bit different, and hope the market shifts in their favor. And it is also one of the few indigenous advantages they do have left, hailing from the land of the new new thing.
Now, if the market instead shifts all the way to sensible, they’ll of course be left stranded again, begging for a handout from the change and hope crowd.
There used to be a Miller beer commercial that started out showing a guy with a traditional crew cut washing his ’70s era wood-grain full size station wagon in his driveway. He’s muttering about how everybody today has to has the latest rendition of something just for fashion’s sakes. The camera pans over to his young stylish neighbor washing his luxuy crossover.
I identify so much with that commercial….
BTW: I have searched the internet high and low for that commercial. If anybody has a link to it, I would appreciate it.
You’d think that the editor (still?) of Automobile would know that the Lexus RX is the sales leader of this class. Yet she fails to mention it. She’s as useless a GM shill as I’ve ever seen. Right up there with Delorenzo. Perhaps we can have “Ultimate Battle of the GM Shills”, coming up next on Fox. No wonder her magazine is offering me a free 1 year subscription, that I will not take.
I still can’t believe Caddy is pitching this “new” SRX which is really an Equinox under the (ugly) skin. Isn’t the fad of gunslit windows past its “sell by” date?
accords: What it was like.. when GM was the leader of styling. Yeah, what was that like?
It was wonderful, especially for a coming-of-age male adolescent. Great times; the General is just a shell of its former self. Little did we know that the seeds of its own destruction had already been planted.
I actually find it amusing that they are pining their next best hope… on this dumpy semi luxo pos…
And using Automobile mag to help promote it.
Remind me again why Im glad I dumped R&T after 20yrs… and how much GM sucks.
I mean seriously the 2nd gen SRX is what ya crowing about. They havent figured that Lex is on their 3rd gen unit… on a frame related to 6 other UNIDENTIFIABLE vehicles…
Meantime their cars lack seriously. The Slade should be taken out back and shot.. and the wagon… as much as I do love it.. wont last a generation… cause they are going to put more money in the Vue copy.. than the wagon. (Another case of inter brand competition, just like BMW / MB / Audi and their canned for US wagons.)

I want to say something respectful about the Jean Jennings “soundbite”, but, um…
You’s a ho.

Hmmm
I know this is splitting hairs..

Meet the new GM, same as the old GM.
(apologies to Pete Townshend)

Id just like to know..
What it was like.. when GM was the leader of styling. Yeah, what was that like?
Id also love to know.. who snipped the balls from GM. So they cant even produce a decent vehicle without one of its stupid n fast step sisters.
Im almost in hysterics to think that their whole world.. revolves around that rebadged POS Vue making the whore rounds to all of GM.
Same old GM is right.
Whore the shit out.. till ya cant whore it anymore or saturation from its own competition begins.
