Last week’s CC Clue was tough. Juniper was close, but Vanilla Dude nailed it. And he asked for more tough ones. All right, then, try this one on for size. But don’t labor too hard on Labor Day.

Ford Mustang? My bets would be on a ’73. The Eleanor ones…

I’m with you on this one…one thing, though – Eleanor was a ’67 Shelby GT500.
Only in the stupid remake. I’m talking the original H.B Halicki flick from 1974…
paul_y : Lada Riva?
A good (but incorrect) guess. I’d love to find one of those here.
This CC car was sold in the US in its day, if that helps.
It looks Fordish to me, but I can’t find one with square headlight bezels…
International Scout?
This is a long shot…Its a low rear view of a Corvair?
mikey: No; it’s a front grille.
I’m guessing late ’70s or early ’80s Japanese. Datsun, maybe Mazda?
AMC Gremlin?
@Nearprairie: I was thinking AMC Javelin as well?
Some kind of Pontiac?
AMC Spirit. Early 80’s?
Not an AMC Javelin. Or even a car. This is a pickup. 70s or 80s. Heavy aluminum grill, you can tell from the stamping. Comments that it might be a Ford make sense, and on Labor Day, Hello… a truck. How ’bout an early Ranger, or the Asian truck Ford imported at one point? Got to B.
Datsun 510?
Austin Greene: Datsun 510?
That’s what I would have guessed (if I didn’t know better).
1977 Fiat 128
I”m still think it’s an AMC – if not a Spirit, a Concord?
I’m with Bill, the shape and angle of the grill and hood above says truck or van to me. Unfortunately I have no clue what vehicle that grill belongs too, I can’t find any F-series or Econoline photos that match up, the closest I can find is a 70s vintage Dodge van.
I think br549 got it: a Fiat 128, or possibly a 124. I haven’t seen one on the road in 20+ years.
I’m feeling generous with clues today; it’s not a truck/van.
Knew I’d seen it before.
Honda N600
I’m thinking the duke may have nailed it.
1973 Mustang? (with the driver’s-side headlamp just to the right of the image crop)
EDIT: Sorry, the grille’s all wrong, although the ’73 does have square headlamp bezels…
“I’m guessing late ’70s or early ’80s Japanese. Datsun”
Agree….
will narrow down to late 1970s Datsun.
I thought a Datsun at first, too, or maybe a Ford Cortina but none of them match.
I still think it’s an English car, like maybe a Vauxhall.
I’ll guess a Mustang II. Mid 80’s? I had another guess but I can’t remember the model name. It was also a hatchback Ford…
My first instinct upon seeing the picture was “Datsun”. But I know nada about which one…
OK. 1970s Datsun w/ squared-off lines. If its not the 510 or B210, its one of the rarer models like the 610. Weren’t there also some 310s and 410s maybe?
It could be a 1970s Fiat, though.
Mid 70s Opel

For everyone still inclined to Datsun, I offer this picture of the Honda N600.

I’m with Duke: N600
The Duke’s definitely got it…
It is a 1973 Mustang. But not the Mach1. This is the base model mustang grill for this one off year. This was the first year for the crash standard bumpers. The front bumper had a plastic body colored cover and protruded out ahead of the leading edge of the hood, the back was still chrome metal with big rubber bumper guards and it was shock mounted, so it protruded out some as well. The turn signals were moved up to and mounted on the grill, next to the head lights. They were a vertical rectangle on the base version and the grill had horizontal slats with the mustang horse wreathed in a chrome bar at the center of the grill.
I’m wondering about a 65 or 66 Canadian Studebaker.

In the original Gone in 60 Seconds, Eleanor was a 1973 fastback. The 1967 was used in the remake from a few years ago.
Austin Marina
Could it be a Capri II ??
Ford Maverick
