From The Detroit News:
When employees rent cars they “should be a GM brand whenever feasible,” the expense rules said. But they are also “to be the lowest cost vehicle.”

And? Isn’t this SOP?
I don’t see any controversy.
What could be more delicious than the image of Government Motors executives gliding over the clouds with a glass of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in hand while their underlings frantically search for a bottle of Mobil 1 down on terra firma?
That is so wrong…
If I ran GM, I’d require executives to rent anything BUT a GM car. That way they have to pull their out of their ass and see what they are competing with.
@yankinwaoz :
Agree and disagree. The combination of “rent a GM car” and “lowest cost vehicle” should, *theoretically* put their overstuffed butts in a fleet of Chevrolet Aveos.
This, I contend, is the perfect form of Hell.
Lear Jets excepted.

No, no, no. They’ll like what they see. I learned that on TV.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I read those two lines was Aveo, as well.
Oh, the delicious irony… If only they could force all the management people to do this, as well, it would improve GM greatly…
This has ALWAYS been the norm at Chrysler, Ford, GM, etc. So what’s the controversy?
I’m glad someone is balancing my formula; when renting cars I will always take a Ford, Toyota or Mazda ahead of a GM car….
It makes perfect sense to me, but @yankinwaoz also has a point about the fact that they should drive the competition so they know what they’re up against.
So what happens when no GM cars available and expense report receipt says “Toyota Corolla”?
Well, yes they should drive the competition so they’ll know what they’re up against. Such as 2.7 liter Chargers….

GM employees use National or Avis. FloorIt, I have to assume you’re being facetious. The concept of “no GM cars available” gave me a good laugh. Thank you!
