Elon Musk and Martin Eberhard, two of the co-founders of Tesla announced today that they have resolved their dispute.

Tesla Motors statement announcing that the firm’s feuding founders have decided to play nice with each other instead of suing each other. “Without Martin’s indispensable efforts, Tesla Motors would not be here today,” says Elon. “As a co-founder of the company, Elon’s contributions to Tesla have been extraordinary,” says Martin. Aren’t they adorable?

They should resolve their differences the old fashioned way.

Lucky Martin Eberhard. He gets paid off with some of the taxpayer money Tesla got. And not only did this lawsuit settle, but Magna dismissed its $5 million lawsuit against Tesla. No word on whether there was a settlement or whether Magna just gave up.

So now, with almost half a billion dollars of our money for Tesla alone, and over a billion dollars more for SpaceX, Elon Musk is sitting fat and happy. He sure has learned how to suck at the taxpayer teat.

They make a cute couple. I guess something added a spark to their relationship.

Government receives more value from what they pay to SpaceX than they would get anywhere else for the same money. If you look at what MSFC gets for Ares, 30 times more worth. Sounds like a pretty good deal for taxpayers to me. If that’s called “sucking on teat”, I wish GM did that, and a lot of it.

I just checked the calendar. It’s not April 1st. Really.

Well, in all honesty, both statements are true. Tesla would not have been founded without Martin and it would not have been funded without Elon. So good work on that settlement.

However, it’s interesting to note that one of the conditions must have been for Martin to shut down his blog:

I was really hoping to see some fuller information on the settlement.

I strongly suspect the government will get far more out of its loans to Tesla than its investment in GM, which, as has been discussed here ad nauseum, will result in an almost total loss for the government. At least Tesla is borrowing the money and will most likely pay it all back.

I’m a Libertarian but don’t really begrudge Tesla its money. Of all the things government can blow its money on, an admittedly innovative car company is the least of my worries.
