Hmmmm! With 59-ish days left of RF contributing, I might have trotted these out one-by-one to help keep folks coming back while they realize that – under Edward – all will be just fine.
Oh! And as for a favourite? Well, V is certainly for….Farago’s best “piece” ever! ;-}
I have to say the flying vagina debacle tops the lot. Not so much because it was funny, but because the rage from the MSM and auto makers came so sudden, unexpected, so swift and with such a force. I mean, sexual connotations and cars is not such an uncommon phenomena. You only have to think of the phallic C3 Corvette, or the front end of a Jaguar XK120 to see what I mean.
No, what makes it stand out, is Faragos persistent belief to call a spade a spade, and stick to it. Unraveling the obvious truth, had the same impact in this case as telling the world that the emperor was not only naked, but that his “parts” were showing for all to see. If that were the case, then so be it, the truth in this matter have to be told.
I have never ever encountered an auto journalist with integrity that deep, with that kind of chutzpah, and with an almost obsessive compulsive need to bring out the unvarnished truth, no holds barred, published or be damned, or banned in this case. Integrity doesn’t come any more expensive than this.
And that means all. In fact, that means everything.
Just finished reading the first paragraph of the Tribeca review. It was painful and not for the reason everyone probably thinks.
The Tribeca reminds me a lot of the current crop of Audis. I find some Tribeca front end DNA there. You slap on a huge grill and everyone thinks that’s a beautiful design statment?
Instead of the vagina analogy, I’d use the term “brown bagger.” You know the one where your girl has a decent body, but only a face your momma could love?
It may not be original, but it is appropriate and very witty!
“Brown bagger” isn’t a strong enough statement. Perhaps “two bagger”…one for her head, and one for yours, in case hers falls off.
Robert created 4,600 posts as of Thursday. There’s a treasure trove from which to choose. :)
This was the review that had me start coming here on a regular basis. Unfortunately the review has lost its pictures, but you can google the car to see it: https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/ultima-can-am/
It was a great read and really gave the feeling of driving the car. Wow, the date is 2002, that’s a long time ago.
The two reviews that made me love TTAC:
Elise S2 Review, Circa 2002:
https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/lotus-elise-s2/
Porsche 997 C4 Review, Circa 2005:
https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/porsche-911-c4/
How about posting the very first TTAC posts for posterity? I started reading TTAC in 2004 and quickly became hooked on the no BS approach to cars. I’ve referred many people to this site for car reviews and information they won’t find anywhere else. RF’s witty writing style unhampered by the limits placed on MSM rags provided an everyman’s view of the cars we drive, love, hate, sell and repair every day.
I hope Robert can contribute an article or two in the future, no sense locking the door when company is coming.
Those reviews from 2005 or so have no or only 1 or 2 comments. Did readers comment a lot less back then, or were the comments lost?
Robert has 4 articles posted today. Written before the Friday meltdown, or has verticalscope (re)gained their sanity?
I landed at this site on about GM’s deathwatch Nº 20 or something like that. It took me 1 or 2 days to update on it.
I think the very first post should be resurrected and posted, maybe the last day he’s around here.
Also, I don’t discard some of his best TTAC articles will be written during these days.
