I’m going out of town next week and renting a vehicle at my destination. I went to Priceline and Hotwire. None of my Priceline bids were accepted. The airport and taxes tacked on to the base price are around 25%.
I wound up booking the reservation through a British reservation site. I was able to reserve a luxury car for the same price the other sites had quoted for a regular car. It’ll probably be a DTS or Lucerne, but that’s got to be better than the 2.7-liter Charger I had last time.
Okay, they accidentally put up a GXP trim. But you certainly can rent G8 V6s and GTs w/o the sport package. Just before I switched from Avis to Hertz, the Washington-Baltimore region took in a massive delivery of G8 GTs. In fact, that fleet of 50 or so constituted the first time I’d seen any G8 in the real world. It was when they were first hitting the streets (the local Pontiac dealer didn’t even have one yet). I knew it wasn’t going to be the success GM wanted/needed at that moment.
Welcome to America! Get the full American experience! Drive an American-made car! …oops.
Actually, driving a G8 cross-country wouldn’t be so bad.
So… after seeing this ad, one would assume you can go to AVIS and rent a G8 GXP?
There’s also that “save 10% off” thing you could use at TTAG.
Save ten percent off (so, does that mean zero percent off? huh?) when you rent an Australian-built car in America?
That they show a G8 but you would probably get a Caliber or an Aveo sedan instead?
Good news: coming to America.
Better news: driving in America with a G8 GXP.
Bad news: it’s not Germany.

The sign’s not in Spanish… and besides, the average illegal couldn’t afford to rent even a Sebring with the ACORN discounts…
Segfault:
What site might that be? Might be useful down the road for others.

Avis: Try even harderer!
