Actually, that’s fairly attractive. If GM could produce an effective hybrid that looked like that for a reasonable price…

    Never mind.

Looks like previous gen mazda 3 with a blingy front end.

A rebadged Hybrid Vue wouldn’t work as a Buick, but somehow a rebadged Astra will? This had better either be a joke, or not for NA.

I was thinking it was a re-badged Vibe.

The Vibe being one of the few cars from GM I’d consider purchasing (had a deposit on one before I picked up the Fit), I was sad to read Nummi was being closed and Pontiac killed. But Vibe cum Buick? Not sure about that one.

    Too hatchback-y for a crossover/SUV.

The Buick owners’ demographic and hatchbacks are much mutually exclusive. (even should $4+ gas return).

If Audi can’t push the A3, how can Buick?

Pro: It’s the best looking Daewoo ever. Con: The sole American contibution to the project is the name, all three letters of it.

    erikhans

Could that be the next gen Astra with a Buick front end?

    Buick: The new Chevrolet.

It’s not a Daewoo. It’s an Opel Astra.

Whatever it is, it’s a great looking car.

That car looks very upscale and classy.

Yey another confused CUV that has no place to go but Buick.

The general would be laughable if it wasn’t MY MONEY!

It definitely puts the “ick” in Buick

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm looks like the front end of an Astra and a Vibe from the A pillars back. I don’t know how this fits with Buick’s new slogan, “The Ass-end of Class.”, “We Flunked this Class”, or whatever it is. My girlfriend has a Vibe, I love it, I’d love a Buicked Vibe with the Astra’s high quality interior but since GM is selling Opel and shutting down NUMMI, what’s the freaking point?!?!?!?!?

BTW would the Buick version be available with a stick?

    Must be CDM*.

    Buick: The new Chevrolet.

More like the new Pontiac. You know, the division that exists solely to placate dealers and soak up sales volume

    Must be CDM*.

Don’t bet on it. GM really is trying to use Buick to suck up sales it will lose when Pontiac winds out. As above, GM, as a manufacturer, is geared to run as if it had 10% more marketshare than it really does. They had plans to use various international markets as sinks for excess capacity (eg, they could dump Holdens internationally to keep the Australian brand alive; the Saturn Astra exists to keep the Belgium factory running, etc).

The collapse derailed those plans, and the result we’re seeing—the blind flailing about, trying to find something that sticks—is the desperate thrashing of a drowning GM. Buick looks to be where this will play out in North America: expect to see a large number of cars that make no sense as Buicks as GM’s middle management tries to make up the losses in volume.

I really didn’t expect them to do this with Buick. I fiured they’d keep trying to make them into a Lexus fighter, and that they’d use GMC as the new Pontiac because they couldn’t possibly be so dumb as to try to make their erstwhile Lexus wannabe into a volume brand.

But they are. Way to go, Lutz. You really know how to market.

    http://www.buick.com.cn/hrv/index.aspx

The filename for the pic sez “HRV”. The site above came up in a Google search of “Buick HRV”. This current HRV looks like the old Chevy Optra5 (nee Daewoo Lacetti) that was sold in Canada. This jibes with my impression of the pictured Buick as a small hatchback car, not a crossover.

Even GM would not be so daft as to market a Cruze-sized hatchback as a Buick in America.

    Buick Opel by Magna?

  • avatar

@%&*(! For the love of all that is holy and good, I hope that’s for China only. GM would be stupid to sell that here (hasn’t stopped them before), but it kinda makes sense for China.

  • avatar
    friedclams

It must be one of them thar premium small cars that GM is expert at selling in NA.

  • avatar
    panzerfaust

Buick HRV based on Opel Astra, leftover from Saturn… for sale in China. Could it get any more derivative.

  • avatar

    Cool! A Buick Astra!

(says the owner of a Saturn Astra…)

    JTParts

Ok, enough. I get brand defined styling cues, but really, stop. How many cars could have at least looked better if they weren’t saddled with the corporate grill? GM would be wise to try to make their cars look LESS GM’ish.

  • avatar
    WildBill

Buick Vibe… NO! Chevy Vibe…. there you go. We loved our Matrix (’03 AWD XR), very reliable and lots of features for a small hatch. A Chevy version might just keep the current Vibe owners coming back.

    FreedMike

Not a bad looking car at all…

  • avatar
    european

it’s funny to see how the americans have no knowlegde of european cars.

this is NOT a cuv/suv/ or whatever. nor a vibe replacement. your pontiac vibe is something we europeans call MPV, multipurpose vehicle or renault scenic contender. a MPV might look like a small hatch to you larda.sses but its not. a MPV is taller and longer. a small family hauler.

on the above picture is the new generation of the opel astra (a small hatch), that is marketed as a buick to the chinese. i believe it wont be sold in the US, so why the hell you care how it looks like. you wont be buying it.

    Buick Vue = Vuick.
    Buick Astra = Bastra?

    Buick: The Cadillac of Chevrolets?

    Autosavant

In china, Daewoos sold as Chevys all over the world, incl. the US, are sold as bUICKS.

What can you do? Germans love that untalented moron David Hasselhoff, and the Chinese love Buicks. Go figure.

  • avatar
    DweezilSFV

This is a Buick pimped version of the brand new bigger, bloated Opel Astra based on the Delta II platform IIRC.

“Wouldn’t you really rather have a Buick?”

I’ll wait till the Buick version of the Aveo

  • avatar
    Accords

    Jeez..

    Thats not badge engineering…

    Not much.

    SO..
After all that work in putting together a COMPREHENSIVE refresh on that Lacrosse thing.. they put this together. = a Badge job on a Astra.

    Nice.
