According to The Wall Street Journal [sub], GM CEO Fritz Henderson “was ‘surprised, frankly’ to learn that his sales lieutenant, Mark LaNeve, plans to leave GM next week, a move the CEO announced Wednesday.” In other news, “As he prepares GM for an initial public offering, Mr. Henderson plans to focus on accomplishing things the company has failed to do in the past: making solid margins on rental-car sales; differentiating the GMC truck brand so it doesn’t so closely mirror Chevrolet; and raising the average transaction price for Chevy’s small cars.” Not to mention Buick or Cadillac.

If Fritzie didn’t push LaNeve, then he hasn’t done squat.
Nothing in there about building cars people are willing to give GM that “higher margin”? Again? Still?
Plenty about what GM needs. Anything for the customer ? LaNeve fell when he tripped after being pushed.
Well, we had one guy from GM last month say he was going to “start his own company.” So that excuse was already taken. And everyone knows that “planning to spend more time with his family” is a synonym for “pushed” as is “pursue other interests.” So what’s left?
“accepted the role of (insert title here) at the “insert name of company here.”
So, if he was pushed that means that there was some kind of accountability. When will that accountability apply to others in this government-funded company?
Realistically, I have to assume that the firing had to do with relationships or politics, not performance.
Five brands, too many.
No doubt the govt’s cap on executive compensation played a part in his decision. Must be leaving for greener pastures.
I don’t understand why TTAC hasn’t brought this up yet –
Has anyone else seen the pictures of the toyota and lexus cars with zip-ties holding the floormats in place, this was Toyota’s solution. People always talk about the turning point for GM (where it wrong and never went right again), but this sure looks like that moment for Toyota.
Unless that is just some stop-gap measure until new mats or something is available, but from the reports I’ve seen, the dealers a bitching that this is the solution being given to them.
Bob,
are you sure this is a pic of Fritz Henderson?
It sure does not look like a pic of La Neve or Doherty..LOL
Bonus points for anyone who gets the connection between the pic and the post.
Sounds like a chiseling lie to me, typical corpocracy at work. Susan Docherty definitely has a smoother, more polished sales delivery than LeNeve; after listening to him, I felt like Sonny Corleone was trying to sell me a car.
As for Fritz’s devine intervention as to what he should be focused on, it sounds right on target; it’s just 30 years too late.
I agree with rnc, Toyota has gotten the soft-shoe on the “unintended acceleration” floormat thing. What a stupid problem – 3.8 MM cars recalled, even beats the 1971 Chevrolet motor mount recall that caused, ironically, the exact same thing, unintended acceleration. I was happy to know that Chevy didn’t use zip-ties to hold the motor in place in either my ’68 or ’69 Impala.
Okay she’s his wife? His sister? His Mom? Grandma?
Or how about his daughter? Daughter’s friend? Or what about: This is the picture hanging on the door of his executive washroom? Oh I give up, who is she?
Whoever the hell she is, I hope that she is the next GM sales VP when Doherty gets lost. Far more easy on the eye..and equal to any GM VP in terms of automotive literacy.. (OR much better, most likely)
Hint: it’s not the model that links to LeNeve, but what the model’s wearing. And no, it has nothing to do with cross-dressing.
BTW, kudos to Ed for calling this one:

I don’t get it. What does a green avacado dress have to do with this. Or is it that she is on the casting couch and about to remove it.
Oh I get it they are still stuck in the 70’s like that dress.
I figured it out she is wearing a jumper, as in LeNeve jumped ship.
I am far more interested in who this model is and where in the web Bob found her pic, than in her apparel’s connection with the ‘late’ LaNeve.
It absolutely HAS to have something to do with this GM motorhome:

After much contemplation, it’s obvious.
A unidentified woman (cough – cough) is wearing…. (drum roll, please) a SACK dress.
Nope. Think designer . . . Re-read the headline.
oh my she is beautiful
la neve always looked like an extra from michael jackson’s “thriller” video
Yes, commando, but also a golden handcuff..
I get it, it’s because LaNeve is LEAVEing.

GM used a cable (wire rope) and crimp spade to restrain the engine when it broke loose instead of replacing the poor quality motor mounts.
It may actually be true that Henderson “was ’surprised, frankly’ that LeNeve was leaving.
GM has historically had such low standards of performance. They’ve allowed mediocrity and incompetence for years. So it is no surprise that they would be okay with LeNeve staying on after years of disastrous sales performance.

No. Think Obama’s unwarranted accolade. Then designer. Then headline. Also, have a look at the end of my post on Cadillac’s recent road kill.
Ok, here is my go at it. Her dress is colored leaves, the type that fall in Fall. LaNeve, fell, like the leaves fall, and thus he wasn’t pushed. I think there are slightly too many steps in this connection Robert.
Oh, Robert, drop the sham. That’s one of the most charming young ladies I’ve seen in a long time. There doesn’t need to be a reason to put her pic up at TTAC. It’s OK. Just do it, whenever you feel like it. The thread above is conspicuously devoid of complaints.
This all reminds me of “A Separate Peace”.
OK, I’ll guess the model is wearing a fall dress from one of Lilly Pulitzer’s collections.
“That’s OK, Bob. You take the shower.
I’ll wash up on shore.
She’s a noble piece prize given for things he didn’t quite get around to doing?
“the prettiest girl I ever knew”
how many points for that one?
Carperson – “GM used a cable (wire rope) and crimp spade to restrain the engine when it broke loose instead of replacing the poor quality motor mounts.”
They replaced broken ones and wire roped the unbroken ones; I worked for a Chevy dealership in ’73 & ’74 and did a bunch of them. I still have my ’68 and the mounts never separated and the wire rope is still in place to this day.
Way too obscure for me.
May He Rest in Peace
Maybe he finally figured out how things are and decided to get out now before being fired later.
I got it.
Think “lipstick on a pig.”
To feign ignorance about LaNeve is a sorry attempt to put lipstick on a pig.
Go ahead, tell me I’m wrong! I dare you!
Damn you, Farago. You have left us hanging.
