Thank you Robert, for the clips interspersed here and there of balls-to-the-walls original Mini driving. Sorry, all you people out there with dearly beloved MINIs….it just isn’t the real thing….any more than a Miata is a Super Seven.
Driving an original Mini is immediately detectable by the wall-to-wall grin on both driver and passenger and fasterfasterfaster.

@Stewart: “Sorry, all you people out there with dearly beloved MINIs….it just isn’t the real thing”

Sorry Stewart, while the Classic Mini is fun to drive, the newer MINIs still put a wall-wall grin on your face. My next door neighbor has a Mini and a MINI and enjoys both the old and the new. Yes, they are different cars, but that doesn’t mean the newer cars aren’t a lot of fun.

I’ve spent a lot of time behind the wheel of an R53 JCW and it’s a blast. The roads near my house are wonderfully twisty similar to the ones in the video and they are awesome in a light fast small car. While I’ve never driven a Miata, I’m sure it would be fun as well.

I’ve owned both old and new (1980 Mini 1000 & 2005 Cooper S). Both were tons of fun, but the difference is that I loved the old car and was genuinely sad to get rid of it.

    Neither were particularly reliable though.

I own a 2009 just-a-Cooper Cabrio so count me as a Mini fan.

Kind of off topic, but this is like the 100th Mini “ad” I’ve seen online in the last couple of months. Even the despised (by me) hookers on drugs videos I have to admit generated a lot of press.

Why? Is the PR department at BMW Mini so much better than everyone else’s?
