And the Hummer mess is marching on: Both Tengzhong and SAIC deny reports in the Chinese press that they are planning to cooperate in the production of the Hummer SUV in China. A lot of sense it would make:

Tengzhong is a little-known heavy machinery maker, with no experience in making and marketing SUVs. SAIC on the other hand is a long time joint venture partner of GM, has access to GM’s technology and knows how to market a car or two.

However, both of them say they don’t know what the press is talking about. Tengzhong says it didn’t contact SAIC on the issue. A spokeswoman of SAIC said the company has never heard of such thing and had no such intention, reports Shanghai Daily.

Then there is this little detail that Tengzhong is still waiting for government approval, while the government is still waiting for an application to approve. With a little help of SAIC, that red tape would long be cleared, and a bunch of big red stamps would be under the deal.
