As much as I’ve appreciated FWD winter traction here in the midwest ever since I got it, that is one thing that I’ve had to give up.

Brings back memories of when I was a lad in Northwestern Ohio.  My Chevy Celebrity (which had excellent winter traction with the old heavy iron duke and three speed auto driving the fronts) was in the shop getting the alternator replaced.  It was the dead of winter 1995 and my dad loaned me his 86 Chevy Caprice Wagon to get to work in the neighboring town (8 miles away) totally uneventful trip in but while I was working my crappy restaurant job after school job a mother of a winter storm blew in and dropped a nice wet slick 4 in of snow.  I had not had a ton of experience with RWD, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly and luckily had a natural gift for it.  By the time I left the parking lot of the restaurant around 9pm I was already steering with the throttle and not worrying too much about the over boosted power steering.  Good times, good times.  The old man would have killed me if he saw me driving WRC style in his company car.

Hey, I did the same thing with my dad’s Escort back in high school.  Being a FWD American Escort though, I had to settle for handbrake turns.
