The good folks at Autocar report that an electric polar bear, made in China, will be unleashed on Europe this spring.
The Nanoq – meaning polar bear in Greenland – is a small and supposedly five seat plug-in. It will be manufactured as a joint venture between China’s Geely and Danish company Lynx. Geely provides the car, Lynx supplies the electrical components and a new lithium battery pack.
The car had been shown at last month’s global climate talks in Copenhagen. Having received a positive reaction, the companies have now announced that the electric bear will be sold in Europe.
Geely says the Nanoq will have an underwhelming top speed of 81mph and a range of up to 125 miles. The batteries themselves are the same as those used in the Lynx GT, a 1057bhp, all-electric supercar made by the Danish company Protanium.
Geely says the Nanoq may go on sale in the USA and Asia later this year or in 2011.
