The good folks at Autocar report that an electric polar bear, made in China, will be unleashed on Europe this spring.
The Nanoq – meaning polar bear in Greenland – is a small and supposedly five seat plug-in. It will be manufactured as a joint venture between China’s Geely and Danish company Lynx. Geely provides the car, Lynx supplies the electrical components and a new lithium battery pack.
The car had been shown at last month’s global climate talks in Copenhagen. Having received a positive reaction, the companies have now announced that the electric bear will be sold in Europe.
Geely says the Nanoq will have an underwhelming top speed of 81mph and a range of up to 125 miles. The batteries themselves are the same as those used in the Lynx GT, a 1057bhp, all-electric supercar made by the Danish company Protanium.
Geely says the Nanoq may go on sale in the USA and Asia later this year or in 2011.
for those in the metric world
130km/h top speed
200km range
this sounds sufficient for the metro cycle – that car also looks like any number of chinese knockoffs… it looks like the Toyota Aygo almost
I was so disappointed when a second glance at the pic showed that the polar bear didn’t have a hinged rear porthole.
Mmmmmmmmm! Chinese Danish!
…and an ad-speak transliteration of “Nanook”!
my gut is absolutely not interested in doing a Snoopy dance over this thing. I mean, like thrillsville.
My intellect insists that anything that reduces use of oil reduces money that goes to bad countries, and preserves the magic fuel for our beloved ICE.
