Apparently, we want what they got. And the thing is I can picture almost every product that those two sell in North America in my driveway, depending on what I need the vehicle for.
(OK war between the “HATERS” and the “CONGRATULAT-ORS” begins right after this post.)
I agree, with the exception of the super-ugly Amanti.
Well deeply discount an Amanti enough and the nice interior would help me forget about the ugly exterior.
I have heard that the Mother company Hyundai borrowed Engineering specs from Toyota so its no wonder they are doing well and I can also see why people in the USA would be happy too as they manufacture vehicles in your low pay States, I don’t see any factactories here in Canada so in that regard I would not buy one I do believe that if you wish to sell Vehicles here, then make some of them here, old way of thinking I guess!
Hyundai just sold 100,000 vehicles in Canada in 2009. I’d say that’s pretty good, when you consider that they sold 435,000 vehicles in the much-larger US market.

I would guess that workers in Hyundai’s American “low-pay” states are earning more than their Korean counterparts, who earn only about $20k US annually. I’m sure that if a Canadian province made the business climate attractive enough, Hyundai would consider building a plant in Canada.
We contributed to their December increase with a purchase of a Genesis sedan. It beat everything in it’s price range and final clincher was the year end incentives. I wonder how auto sales will do this year, since the tax deduction on sales tax has expired. I suspect that had something to do with the year end numbers.
It’s a gorgeous car. Are you and your family happy with it, Disaster?
Disaster, my brother bought a Genesis V8 the other day. He’s owned BMW 7’s and big Mercedes and he’s real happy with the G-car. I’m looking forward to checking it out in person this Spring.
I’m more price-sensitive, however. Just from sitting in them at the auto shows, I think I’d be happy with an Azera or Amanti. The latter strikes me as a Korean Buick, and that’s not a criticism. Both are going off the market so maybe used models will become bargains.
One of the kids picked up an 09 Elantra. Fit and finish excellent, leg room excellent, great gas mileage, the engine is smooth and vibration free. For the money the amenities and warranty eclipse the competition, and service so far has been fine from the dealer and no issues. Long term reliability is the only unknown. I noted that there are a number of assemblies that say “Made in Japan”, unlike my last GM which didn’t say Japan, Canada or the USA. I’ll let you arrive at your own conclusion there.
They actually sold more Amanti’s this year than last…. HUH?
The Cadenza looks nice, but just like many asian cars has the WTF naming.
