Normally TTAC shies away from going too crazy with daily themes, but today we’ve got such a backlog of truck-related news and analysis we’re going to go ahead and dub today Truck Thursday. After all, few automakers have invested much in trucks and SUVs since gas prices began rising in 2008, and now the segment stands at a crossroads. Firms like Toyota, which invested too much too late in the truck and SUV market have to figure out how to manage its overcapacity. Firms like GM and Chrysler, which got bad reps for becoming overdependent on trucks and utes are faced with the challenge of keeping much-needed profits flowing while weaning themselves off their body-on-frame addictions. New challengers like Mahindra are headed into the market with a utilitarian ethos that’s been missing from the segment for decades, and established players are responding. Old brands like HUMMER are dying on the vine. The result is a truck market that’s rife with change and transition. Join us as we delve into this changing world of trucks and SUVs today, during TTAC’s celebration of Truck Thursday.

That photo is certainly part of the backlog. Unless it’s from Paul’s recent trip to San Mateo. I can’t quite see the license, but isn’t that Oregon’s color?
The classic truck owner has a great garden. I wonder what else s/he has.

That looks like a 65 model with the twin I beam suspension. I drove my stepfather’s 64 with the longest throw three on the tree shifter ever made. It seemed that the lever would move about three feet from first to second……………no speed shifting possible, but I tried anyway.

There used to be about half a dozen of those floating around here in the ’90s, but I haven’t seen any lately. Find any of the unibodies yet?

thetruthabouttrucks.com is still owned by Ford, although the page it was pointing to now says “The page you’re looking for can’t be found or has moved.”

I agree with the lack of a utilitarian pickup especially, but also in the Toyota 4Runner class.  Tired of the ‘fashion statement’ and bloated sheet metal.   We need some utilitarian trucks.  Maybe India and or China will provide these.

I don’t like this truck Thursday, Semi Friday, SUV Saturday, Hurst Sunday stuff… It’s the Truth about Cars, if you want to specialize it start-up The truth about Trucks, Semis, Convertibles and what ever else… TTAC is getting depressing, it’s not even entertaining. It really saddens me to say this guys… Ed you’re a great read, so is Paul, but the site has lost it’s Mojo not much diversity anymore… and I’m not referring to R.F
I wish you luck in the future, but I wont be logging in on a daily basis…will check the things that interest me when i see the headline on Twitter….
