An AMG-tuned S Class Coupe prototype (note that the CL moniker has been dropped) gets stuck in a drift while testing in the icy north. Auto Motor und Sport reports that it took the combined efforts of an ML prototype and an S Class prototype to pull the beast from its icy resting place. Sportisch!

Wow, you have been busy with the Toyotacceleration ® story.

What is wrong: Drifting in a MB. Anything with an open diff is just silly to drive in a spirited fashion.
“Mercedes cold weather testing of their new Toyota-source braking system.”
It’s nice to see Mercedes finally acknowledging that coupes are just extensions of their sedans, and eliminate the pointless model designations like CL, CLK, etc.
Toyota-designed automatic parking system?
Massive horsepower and limited friction is a recipe for ending in a situation like this.
Good tires, but not great tires.
ESP system disabled???
Somebody should’ve brought along an Audi for situations like this :)
I assure you that I can easily put my Audi in a 4 wheel skid around a corner up here – especially when the air temp is -20C.
ESP systems, etc., just breed complacency or over-confidence I suspect.
And that’s why my ’06 CL500 (even at half the hp, RWD and tires that aren’t designed for snow) is in the garage for the winter… tced2 hit it on the head.
Ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner.
There’s a hill I can’t climb in ANY 4WD vehicle in the back woods of Greenwich CT when it snows.
Steep and twisty turny most SUVs will handle. Littered with RWD mercs is another story :D
One of the lady engineers on our C5 Corvette development ride did the same thing one winter (Jan 96 maybe) somewhere in western MN. Some helpful locals in an SUV stopped by and helped us out-of shape GM folks push it out. I’m not sure if they knew what it was (it had camo) and we weren’t allowed to tell them. But they are curious.
Here we see what happens when a corporation tests its cars by doing what a customer might do.
Hmm so if the ML Prototype sucked does that mean the new Cherokee will be as bad?
If they cover car badge like that, do they really think that folks would mistake A Merc Coupe for some other car with round badge, say an Opel, a VW or a BMW?
