While the car shows are full of hybrids and EVs, big trucks are still indulging in the horsepower race. Scania has seized the crown with its new 730 hp V8 R730. Lets I forget the really big number, here it is: 2,581 ft.lbs of torque (3,500 Nm). Full details here, and high-production value ad after the jump.

I have a feeling this is more of a show truck, as commercial trucks need to ply for a living, no room for extra HP as to burn off diesel faster, no trucker is going to support driving with own wallet!
Truckers will go for all the amenities bells n whistles n kitchen sink in the cab, more for creature comfort is OK.
Is different than your sports or cruiser car to be played with.

It looks to be built to power dump trucks used on European roads that are far bigger than permitted in the U.S. market. The kind of thing only seen on flatbed trailers with pilot cars ahead of them on U.S. highways. Probably weighs over 150,000 pounds full.

I recall hurrying to get out of the way of a Volvo competitor of this truck on an Irish road that was about 6 inches wider than the truck.

Would not be a bit surprised to find a “heavy hauler” in the USA with one of those specialized Caterpillar engines with a larger amount of horsepower.

Specialized HEAVY load haulers and likely with a V-16 or dual V-8s or something.

    Trailers with dozens of wheels.

At a certain point horsepower is not as important as gear ratios anyway.

Mainly used in Scandinavia, Netherlands and a few other places where 25.25 metres combinations are allowed. A few units are also sold in Italy, Greece and elsewhere just for the bragging rights.

Judging by how impressive the R620 was this has to be one great truck. And best of all they manage to fit an automated gearbox (Opticruise) that can handle such an amount of torque – 3,500 Nm FROM 1,000 rpm.

It’s not really “the world’s most powerful truck” unless you add more qualifiers. Caterpillar 797F is probably the most powerful (3793hp) and has a much higher load capacity (400 short tons)

Yes and no: The Caterpillar is perhaps the most powerful dumper – not truck.
Not possible to drive on road and it only looks like a truck.
The frame/chassis is completely different. And in the “construction equipment off-highway category” on CAT’s homepage.

    The torque conversion is wrong.

    4.745 ft.lbs. = 6,433 Nm

    3,500 Nm = 2,581 ft.lbs
